need some quick help, what weight oil should I run today??

Ma's on her way to walmart right now, I told her to pick me up some 10w30 mobil1. Is that weight oil good?? I live in upstate NY, temps only get up to about 80-90 during the day and down to 50-65 at night. But the humidity is usually between 75% and 100%. I usually use mobil 1 in everything and have had great luck with it.
Figure I will pick up a purilator or wix filter (Im done with fram, heard all bad about them)
any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Well I did some research and used the search option (which works great on this site, sucks on some others) and I found that most are recommending 5w20 or 5w30 in the v10s so thats what im gunna go with...

JKBrad is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Mobil1 10w30 is a great oil for any of the 6.8 motors. Even though it is a 10w30, it is one of the thinnest 30 weights around.

I think you're the first person to say the search is good

I'd always stick with a 5w in the modulars. Too much going on in the top-end for a 10.

In Upstate NY, you can still get some cold nights even in the summer.

5W30, thats what Ford recommended for that year truck when it was new. Now 5w-20 is recommended but I'd use 5w-30 unless its real cold out then you can drop down to 5w-20.

Don't get hung up on oil brand. All the major brands are good. I currently have 5w-20 Valvoline Synpower full syn in my truck because it was cheaper than M1. $21 for the 5qt jug is good. Of course you need 6 quarts for your truck, I always put 6 1/4 quarts in mine. For the summer motorcraft blend is fine also.

Buy a FL-820s filter, its the best for the money.

motorcraft 5w20 is what i've been running since i got my truck almost 5 years ago. i ran 5w30 for a year or so, and then read where they changed it to 5w20.........

i try to use motorcraft, every once in a while i get a Castrol thrown in there cause wally world is out of motorcraft, still the same weight though. motorcraft is $2.39/qt "right now", it's only gon up about a quarter since the whole gas hike thing. $15.oo for oil, $5.00 for for a WIX or NAPA filter, and about 2 "cold drinks" ( one while the oils draining, one after it's done, haha) the change is done.

For what it's worth, I use only Castol GTX dino 5w30 - my '01 was the first year to be spec'd for 5w20, and nothing changed mechanically in the engine.

And, I've tried 5w20 Castrol a few times, but it made the timing chain noisier.

I went back to 5w30 and it was quieter. Of course, a noisier timing chain has nothing to do with longevity, so disregard my ramblings

one good thing is that all my vehicles (both fords, and our minivan) all spec the same oil weight, so i usually try and buy a couple cases of 5w20 at a time (now i do anyway), and that way i got all my vehicles covered for a couple oil changes.

i figure i better put some good oil in my pontiac van, lol, lord knows i'll be on hold forever at the white house trying to schedule warranty work if i ever need it, HAHAHA, so at least it will have good Motorcraft oil in it!!

I run mobil1 5w30 in my wifes van and I always ran it in my other car so I think im gunna stick to that for the truck too. keeps it easier, buy a few 5 qt jugs when its on sale at walmart and im covered. Gunna change it tomorrow. Thanks for the input guys!!

Snow in July? Crazy. You live on Whiteface? lol. Former Upstater here too... Henderson (20min from Watertown). People say I am crazy but I miss the challenge of driving through a foot of snow in the road lol!

They got ice on the lakes up in Yellowknife, NWT yet. A guy on another forum I go to posted pics and said it was a cold winter. Global warming.

Driving in snow can be fun, except when you can't stop.

Personally my trucks with Ford modualr motors get 5W30 year round.

It gets crazy hot here in summer, so i like a little extra of the 30 at the upper end on those broiler hot days when my truck has to work hard pulling a big load.
