5.4l to a v10

I have a 04 f250 with a 5.4l thinking about swapping to a v10 is this a smart thing to do can i just change the engine or do i have to change all kind of other things 5.4l has 88,000 miles not giving trouble whould just like some more get up and get out the way, should i just put the money in my 5.4l to give it more power ???

keep the 5.4, i know someone who was going to do this, everything is differant becouse of the lengh of the engine. plus all the wiring and stuff. it is a hard swap, with only 88,000 on the clock just invest in the tride and true 5.4.. it's way easyer and cheaper.

well a lighting supercharger.. but on a more real budget, i would say a k&n cold air intake, helix power tower, headers, aftermarket exoust, high flow cats and a good aftermarket computer chip..

my borotherr put a k&n intake kit and a power tower on his 5.4 and it was a huge diferance..

Get with Mike at 5-star tuning, they are a sponsor of the V10 forum. An SCT tuner with improved shifting got my old 2-valve V10 a full SECOND off the 0-60 times.

I have cheapo ebay headers, ebay y-pipe and a Volant CAI intake. With Mike's 87 octane custom tune, I went from 10 second 0-60 down to 9.02-9.04 0-60.

Quite an improvement.

As for swapping to a V10, if you have a donor truck, or pull everything from a junkyard including PCM, motor mounts, wiring harness, intake plumbing, etc, it should just "bolt in". The accessories are the same, mount the same, etc. But for ease of swap, I'd stick with a 2003-2004 V10. Big $'s though, and you should be able to get a little more out of the 5.4 for less cost.

motor mounts are the same between the 5.4 and the v10, the bellhousing for the trans and the flywheel are also the same so other than the wiring they are basically the same. the v10 has the same bore and stroke as the 5.4 just with two more cylinders added up front, so the only place you could run into fitment issues is in the fan/radiator area.
