All hooking up does is proves who has the best tires. But that illiterate guy has me waiting on him.

I'm with you there, I'll hook up the cable, don't want to use a chain, when you yank on him, don't want the chain to break, and take out his back window.......

Haha. Same for me. Don't want to replace my back window. I have a towing bumper (Road Warrior), so I know the chain will break before anything.

I just want to throw something in here; For anyone saying the 302 doesn't belong in a truck, look at the owner's manual of how much the F250 light class can tow. Both the 300 and 302 are included. Look at which one is rated to tow more.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; the 300 and 302 are two opposite animals. The thing about it is, we're dealing with pickup trucks, not semi tractors. Granted towing is a serious business and if you don't have the knowledge or mental tools to do it correctly people could die (serious busines!), you're still dealing with small numbers in comparison. Both the 300 and 302 are all a half ton truck needs. With either motor, you will break something before the truck won't tow it. It's as simple as that. Now, a 351 makes towing that much easier in a half ton. To hear some people talk you would think the 302 has all the pulling power of a Honda four banger.

Haha, amen. After reading some comments on here, I almost get sick to go ride in my 302 powered truck. But when I get in it, it cheers me up. Like you said, the 300 and 302 are completely different beasts and both are PLENTY for any half ton truck. BTW, I posted some vids of my truck, Bill.

the 302 I built for my youngest son will burn holes in a speed bump. I need to look for the pictures I took of that one, and post them. the truck is awsome, he pulled a 34' travel trailer with it. it is the same truck as yours Bill, short, and mean. the thing will burn the tires down to the cords if you want it too.pull for pull, I think it would give my 90 250 w/351 a run for it's money

Yep. Or you can go to this thread " http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/86...c-pistons.html " and there is one vid at the bottom of the first page, and a few at the top of the second page. Was just showing that my truck does pull all the way to 5K RPM.

How did you build that 302, Charlie? Did you build it with any specific power band in mind (low end, middle, top)? What gear ratio did you go with?

What earned my respect for the 302 was not in personal experience but from watching a guy I know who uses a F-150 Shortie to tow a trailor with. The F-150 is stock as far as I know with well over 200K miles. He hauls riding mowers and other equipment. Doesn't sound like much, but I've seen that truck launch. His truck is an automatic I think. I'm honestly not sure if I could have taken him out of the hole with the 27'' tires and 4.11 gear I had. Maybe, I don't know. I was impressed though. I've seen that truck launch unloaded and he didn't lose traction; he was there one moment and gone the next.

I won't stay away from any F-150 because it has a 302 in it.

Ah you're kidding me! That really sucks. I didn't think you could twist a drive shaft with a small block of any type. How much power do you think that 302 was making? I think 4.10's are perfect for the 302 from what I've read. Was that posi a locker, or a limited slip?

I have the E40D.. Sloppy booger. Although it shifted fine after I did the gear ratio change. It's back to it's sloppy self after the taller tires though.

302's are alright in a truck, not my first choice but not quite my last. It seems to me the 302 with the manual is good for going fast and hitting top speeds, but with an automatic they aren't as fast but they seem to have more low end torque for some reason. At least that was my experience. I wouldn't be afraid to buy a 302 truck either, but I perfer the 300 myself.

Kind of off topic but I wonder how much you can build a 302 without stroking it, and it still be a good truck motor(a motor that is fast, but could still pull a load)? I know if you open up a motor it will perform better through the range, which means it will still have more or at least the same low end power as it had before, but the 302 is already a short stroke motor and is already a rever from the factory.
