Question 1965 F100 with a F10"J" code. A 223?

OK, so here is the deal. I bought a 1965 F100 with 13,000 on a rebuilt I6 for $650 bucks. The body is in fair shape and everything else is in perfect running order. Truth is, this thing will jerk the gates off Hell and drag the devil with 'em. My problem is that the door code says it has a 223 in it (based on '61-'66 I.D. codes as found in a LMC order catalogue) which goes against my research so far which says that a 65 should have the 300, which is what I thought it was in the first place. I can't find any markings on the engine itself to varify what the heck is actually in it. Any suggestions on how to determine what I've got without measuring the stroke? I'm totally new at this game, but I'm looking forward to juicin' this baby up. If anyone can help me solve this mystery I would greatly appreciate it.

IIRC 1964 was the last year for the 223 so I looked it up in a couple of catalogs to be sure. In 1965, F-100's were equipped with 240c.i. and 300c.i. I-6 engines. You probably have one of those.

OK, I'll post some pics later today. I found the same info on the 223. That's why it threw me. The funny thing is that the HP listed on the door panel doesn't match anything I've found either at 129 hp.Maybe the pics will shed some light for someone. I'm fairly certain it's a 300, but I'd like to know for sure before I start ordering parts that cost an arm and a leg. lol Thanks for the replies.
