2002 Ford Exsploder issues

Hello,
my girlfriend own a 2002 ford exsplorer XLT with many faults, the main one now, and I fear from reading a couple forums is the trannys done. Shes got over 100,000 miles on it. The O/D light is flashing and it shifts hard inbetween shifts. Also bangs downshifting and reverse. Its also one of the tubeless trannys so you cant check the fluid. I have read many complaints on this transmission, I think its toast but if someone thinks otherwise I probably will replace the thing.

Also there is clicking in the rear of the truck in the very back like a selinoid we thought it had something to do with the ventalation, but the ticking does not stop with all the vents turned off.

Check engine light comes on the code says its the EGR? Could it be messing with the trannys function?

I dont know please help!!!!!

Thanks Ed

2002 Exsploder Issues

I might be able to give some insite in 2 of your 3 issues. The clicking in the rear of the truck could be from the AC/Heater unit blend door. If it is the blend door, the fix is the same as the blend door up under the dash, or a temp fix is to pull the # 24 or 25 fuse. As for the EGR prob, pull the code, if it reads PO401 then you have a DPFE sensor that has goon bad, like mine, you will need to replace it and then have the system reset with a code reader or remove the neg side of bat for 15 min, hope this helps

As you are probably already aware, the blinking OD light and hard shifting means the trans is in limp mode. Try resetting the computer (with scanner or disconnect battery) and see if the problem clears. It's worth a shot.
