Motor is in and headers installed. Mechanic told me that the headers were an easy install that if he took them apart he could reinstall them in 15 minutes. They fit without any mods. They look good and no more restrictive Y pipe. No real noticeable difference in sound. I am not supposed to take the motor up above 2500rpm for the first 500 miles, so I really don't know the difference in performance yet. I will post pics as soon as the mech sends them to me. One ? though, if anyone knows. The old motor called for 5W30 and the new one 5W20 does this seem right?

Yes. In 2001 (I think) Ford recommended 5W20 in all mod motors.

I run 5W30 because 1.) It was still recommended in 2000 and 2.) Because all my other cars use it as well so I only need to keep one oil weight around.

The mod motors have pretty small oil passages so a thick oil is going to cause flow problems. Personnaly I wouldn't run anything heavier then 5W30.

Just that I know one guy who used that stuff. The oil was perfectly stable up until his Ford I6 300 spun a main bearing, and his other engine, a 351W lost oil pressure and recovered (it had over 150K miles on it at the time, so it was very loose which probably saved it).

If you're using a good oil, you don't need to "stabilize" it.

at about 60k my v10 had a clatter to it, so i put in lucus.
20 seconds of running and it went away.
I have used it ever since in every thing i own.
it is slicker than oil, cushions and parts better and makes them run quieter.
I also use the atf additive, gear lube additive and PS fluid additive.
on high mile auto trans and PS pumps, it makes a difference you can tell from driving it before and after. in diffs. and manual trans, the difference is there, but much less so.
the thing is 20%. lots of people take the " more is better "approach.

I ashure you the V10 was tested in how weather with 5w-20 and 5w-30 and they found it works fine. Lucas stabilizer is best suited for lawnmowers or vehicles that have oil control problems.

Hey, more power to ya (pun intended).

Is that the "stabilizer" or something else?

Like I said, I know one person who used it in his vehicles and both had major loss of oil pressure, one catastrophically.

I agree.......Lucas cost my good friend a motor too.

Heavy oil is not allways better. Like mentioned here the passages are smaller in newer engines and heavy oil will not flow as freely to reach upper parts and bearings. It was hard for me to understand untill we tore down a Mod v-10 and noticed how small the passages were.

Don't try to re-engineer just do what the OEM's reccomend. Chances are you will do more harm than good. If you want better lubrication use Mobile 1.

man that reminds me of a shop owner down the road from us (and i'm right next door to ya in La).......

he bought the truck (f250 V10 CC), i saw it about 3 mo later with the engine jerked out of it, i thought he was parting it out. after i stopped to ask about it he said he was waiting on a new engine........ wiped the cam CLEAN on the old one.......... just happened to ask him what oil he was running........ (now this is from a 25 year ASE certified mech).....

" i only run 20w50 in all my BIG BLOCK trucks....... and 10w40 in the "southern winter"......."

this truck was for sale again about 4 months ago with guess what........ a blown crate engine........ he said it was a bad engine to start with and he'd never buy a POS V10 ever again..........hhmmmm he wanted $13K with a blown engine and knowing that he used 20w50 in a V10......... not a chance!

i use 5w20 motorcraft with no issues what so ever.
