buying 2002 escape looking for advice.

I'm thinking of buying a 2002 escape, it has a tranny problem but I can get it for $1000. Wondering if the transmissions in the escapes were a issue or if this one was just an odd problem. It has around 100,000 miles I'm wanting to buy put in new tranny and drive to work as daily driver. Any other problems I should know about. Thanks

seems some people had issues with the trans fluid that was used either mercon or mercon 4 the mercon 4 does some weird stuff my daugters 01 has 140,000 miles no trans issues. searce the forums the trans in the escapes are cd4e. ik the trans is shuddering it could just need flushed and refilled with mercon trans fluid.
