Steel fenders vs. glass - opinions please

My '49 F1 was delivered by the seller this week and I'm trying to plan out my schedule of purchasing.

The truck doesn't have front fenders yet. I have been searching various suppliers and I don't see anyone selling steel fenders, only glass.

What's the popular opinion on the reproduction glass fenders? Are they worth the money? Or should I wait to find old originals to rebuild?

TIA.

Dave

I'm sure that you can bide your time and find some good fenders for it, but when you don't have time, and fiberglass is all that there is, use it. It isn't as good in a couple of ways like impact resistance and it is thicker than steel, but what the heck, it does not rust.

If your idea is to do an accurate restoration, take your time and find good steel fenders.... I highly recommend the swap meet at Hot August Nights (6th-8th) in Reno. I will be there peddling fenders for F-100s and pickup bed parts and other things......

Regards,

Alan

I'm not too overly concerned with originality, as we will be modifying it with a Mustang IFS and 4 bar rear setup.

I'm more concerned with the quality and fit of the reproduction pieces, are they worth the price?

I've never heard of Bebops. Do you have any contact info or a website?

Thanks.

Dave,
I bought Pros pick fenders for my 48, they fit pretty good, just some minor tweaking. They are up in the Fergus area. Where abouts in Ontario are you?

My ex-brother-in-law put glass on his 53 about 12 yrs ago. Holding up real well considering he drives the truck year 'round (NY salt belt).

Talking

A Fiberglass fender might do the trick for my battered right front fender, but what I really want are the extry-lawng running boards the F-250s use.

McMillan Fiberglass makes nice glass fenders. They are located in Owen Sound and usually go to the Barrie Swap meet. I've looked at his stuff there and it looks really nice. No website but if you send me a P.M. I can give you the phone number. They make fenders for '34-'79 fords and others as well. I am planning to go with glass fenders on my '52 and will probably buy them from McMillan.
