Price of Salvage Yard C6?

Can anyone give me the going rate for a C6 tranny out of a salvage yard? I was at the salvage yard Saturday and the owner told me $100 for one that was driven into the lot when he got it. Is there anything that I can check besides looking at the color of the fluid and whether it smells burnt. Will all C6 trannies fit my 360 regardless of what year they were produced?

Thanks,
Bob

Around here, $65 if you turn in an old tranny, $80 if not. You pull the "new" one yourself.

For your 360, you'll need an FE bellhousing C6. That means it had to come from a donor with a 352, 360, 390, 428, etc.

I think the last year for light trucks was 76 maybe 75. The heavy trucks went into 78 with the FT engines and those should bolt in as well.

I've heard the C6 is one of the easiest auto to rebuild but I've never seen the inside of one. The price seems fair and I'd expect to pay about $250 to have one rebuilt. They are know for their strength.

Bob, I can tell you that there are shifting arm diferences on the side od the C6. Find one that came from a truck, so the shifting rod will connect correctly.
