1977 ford f100

my 77 f100 is becoming quite the nightmare. started off with a cam change got it back together after that transmission went out 2 days later yesterday got the new trans back up in it got to driving around the property at the house just dies. never done it b4 got it cranks drove 30 yrds died again this time wouldn't start back up got tractor towed back to shop. changed coil and ignition box. coil was VERY hot. started right up after the change. drove 15-20 mins. back to same thing. disconect coil let cool off starts right up. so the big question is why is my coil getting so hot it stops working?

The coil could have shorted windings or the resistance wire may be bypassed.
