looking at an 89 f150 4x4 with a 300ci and 18x,000 miles. i am familiar with the Jeep inline sixes and they can last 250-300K without a lot of effort. is the sam true with the ford 300? i do understand that its an individual basis based on abuse and neglect but as a general rule, what is considered high miles?
what kind of mileage have you guys racked up on your trucks?
214,000+ miles, no serious issues. I think high milage is high milage.. You can expect these motors to run 250,000+ miles.. but a lot of it just depends. If the truck feels real strong and healthy, then it's probably fine.
My 195k 300 in my personal truck is in much better shape than the 80k one in my company truck. My engine runs great and doesn't leak or burn oil. How the truck is driven and maintained is much more important than the miles. The 300 and Jeep 4.0 are probably two of the best inline sixes ever for long life with many going over 250k without a rebuild.
regards
rikard

The two trucks with the I6, one i sold with 150k miles and one with 196k, they both ran just as strong as they did when they were new, even after all the hell i put them through. As long as the motors got good compression, itll run forever. Id say they are just as durable as the jeep I6
My 300 has over 160K miles. It's a real PITA. I am going to have to replace the valve cover gasket that just started to leak...
Seriously. I think the 300 is a better engine than the Jeep 4.0L engine for longevity. For horsepower the Jeep will out rev the big Ford easily and out horse it. Torque is another matter, the Ford has it due in part I suppose to displacement. The Jeep engine just isn't going to last as long without more mainenance along the way. I have had Jeeps and Fords, carberated and injected. Any one will outlast just about any V-8 or V-6 you care to compare them to.

Nice to see some of the stories, 300s not only last long they work hard like trains. Anyone care to add their best 300 story to this thread ? Im down for the day and need something entertaining to read.
Well the I6 I have was my buddy's first truck - we made a 2 year effort to try and blow it up from 30K to 100K (everything outside of leaving a brick on the gas) and he sold it to me - have since put 55K on it [155,000 total] - still getting 22 MPG oil always clean... always reliable. 4x2 and 5 speed = mileage to me.
When I went to buy a new truck, I went out to find one with the 300! It is the best ever built, works hard and plays hard. I can spin the tires next to little sports cars and shock the ***** out of the little DB's in town with my rusty old truck. It is a great engine!
