Tire recommendation

Hey All,

Less than 1000 miles on my truck and already have a flat tire, big hole caused by a rock while driving down a dirt road.

Anyway, I was thinking about changing out the Goodyear Wrangler SR/A's (275/65/18) for something more All terrain type and was wondering what the max tire size was for the 18" factory rims are and also if anyone has recommendations for a good set. The truck has not been leveled, I'm still pondering that but not really sure if I want to go that route.

I'm looking for a tire that would not be too loud at highway speeds and provide better off-road support than the SR/A's have so far.

Picture of the rims is below.

TIA,

Vinny

according to the Discount Tire converter you could do these sizes

Plus Zero
255/70-18
265/70-18
275/70-18
285/65-18

Plus Two
275/60-20
285/55-20
33/1250-20

Plus Four
285/50-22

As for tires I could not help you as I have a 4 x 2 and use Goodyear Fortera's

On a side note at what point do you need to recalibrate the speedo for new tires? Is it only if you change rim size? I have 17" on mine and was thinking of getting different tires as well. Right now I have General on mine. Not too familar with that brand.

I would pick up a set of the Goodyear Silent Armor. They are awesome...I replaced a set of 265/65/17 Goodyear SR/A's like you with these tires. I love them.

already been offraod with them, and done some light rock 4x4 trails. About 2,000 miles and they look like new. and I can't complain as they cost me $860 installed for a 265/70/17 tire

btw, the OEM Goodyear Wrangler AT/S is another great tire. I had them on my 06 FX4 in 275/65/18. With a Supercharger & lead foot they lasted me 26,000 miles and still had just under 1/2 tread left...I also put them through their paces offroad and never suffered a flat.

Goodyear makes some good stuff IMO once you get into their better A/T tires

Could you believe the difference in road noise? I have 40,000 miles on mine and they still have a lot of tread left. The only complaint is they are pain to clean with all of the ridges.

+1 on the Silent Armors. I've got about 5000 miles on mine (275/70-18E) and they are the best tires I've had on any truck. Snow, rain, or dry roads....they are awesome tires!

These are definitely worth your consideration then. I had them put on my truck in November and drove during every snow we had this year. Never had to put the truck in 4WD at all. It went everywhere in 2WD with the exception of the few times I put it in 4WD like I usually do to keep everything free and moving in the front end. Outstanding tire. Of course, anything is better than the stock Continentals that came on it.

I agree with the silent armours too. I had a set on my truck (althought not an 09 f150) and they were great. In the end I had 5-6 32nds on them, and 100kms on the tire. I changed them out because one tire finally blew.
I also swapped them for a m/t tire, and went with toyo (due to the poor service at the local goodyear dealer)

Generally the tires that are put on a vehicle at stock, are not that great of an all around tire. There is always a good upgrade at your favorite tire shop, no matter what brand you like.

Well after spending $3171.66 on my F250 for a trans, I will have to wait a month or so to put new tires on the truck. I went over to tire shop today, where I bought the tires for my wife's van (a doge ram ) he gave me a quote. I gave him a handshake and he ordered them. He said he would have them later this afternoon. Told me I could come over and he would put them on when they came in.
I don't want to be in debt to him so I said it would be a month or so.
He still said if I needed to replace the tires before I had all the cash he would be happy to put them on the vehicle for me, right now !!
I guess it's good to have been doing business with the shop for over 20 years.
Any way we are going to go out of town in the RV for a few days so when I get back next month the Grey Ghost is going to get new shoes.
