Bump... Anyone know the answer to my question above? Thanks!

96,217 miles and walked out from work today and the passenger rear window was down. Took it to the local Ford dealership and they said the regulator was broke. Quoted me 2hrs plus labor for $428. Watched one man finish the job in one hour and they still wanted to charge for two hours. Talked with the man in the service dept and he knocked off an hour. Out the door for $370 with window fixed. Wish I had a garage I could park in and I would have brought it home and fixed it myself......On a side note, I have had the truck since July 2007 and put 70,000 miles on it. Add up all non-maintenance costs (repair bills) since I bought the truck and its under $800. I think that is pretty impressive. Just my .02.

That's horrible and quite normal. That's exactly why a lot of people call it a Stealership instead of a Dealership. Absolute rip offs. Too bad you didn't log on here and do a search first. I started a thread on this quite some time ago and between me and another person there is enough instructions you need to get the job done yourself. Takes all of about 30 minutes from start to finish. Even the mechanics at the local Ford dealership say they do so many that they can do one in about 10 minutes but still charge an hour or 2 labor. You could of even ordered the part from a link in these threads for way less and done it yourself. Expensive lesson learned I suppose.

Window Regulator

We too have had problems with our windows, as we were waiting for the rear passenger regulator, the front drivers side dropped like a stone while driving. Both had the same problem the spools and cables messed up, in my opinion these regulators are over engineered for what they are designed to do (window go up, window go down) that's why they fail.

Actually if they just used more durable parts like metal instead of plastic they would last considerably longer. In an effort to save money though automakers will skimp on some things and use a less durable material. Costs us the money in the end by having to always replace them, but it also allows them to save money therefore not adding to the cost of the vehicle. I don't think this problem is going to get better for older models but quite possibly they may have changed the design on the new F150's.

I bought an 04 SCREW with 88,000 miles in March of this year from a local Ford dealer.

Didn't think to test the back windows during the test drive and discovered that the back windows did not move after I had committed to buying the vehicle. I told the sales person within hours and he put it in the contract that the windows would be fixed at their expense and they did, thankfully.

My concern, why didn't they catch it? How good is this service dept in case I have to go back?

I bought a 36 month warranty with a 100 ded thru the dealer for peace of mind.

If anyone lives near the central coast of California (San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles) and knows of good mechanic, please let me know. As far as I know the dealer (Paso Robles Ford) might be good?

Thanks

Had to replace both back seat regulators at the same time a couple weeks ago. A friend who works at the local Ford parts store said it should have been a recall issue, but isn't as of yet. My 2004 has 77K miles.

2004 Ford Truck "Power Window Problems for the 3rd Time

I have a 2004 Ford F4 and for the 3rd time my power windows are giving me trouble. The right side window stopped today. It is now tapped up.

I've had the truck for 4 1/2 years (bought new) and have replaced 3 regulators, and the 4th one broke yesterday! I replaced the two on the passenger side in 2008 and now will have replaced the two on the driver side this year. I know there has to be some sort of defect, recall on these things; however, I keep getting told there isn't. It's ridiculous! Thankfully I can replace them myself but the part is $165.

The reason for the survey is to see if my complaint will be heard by Ford, and the more people with the problem, the stronger my case. Please list your manufacture date and how many regulators you've had to replace.

Thanks!!

EFFFFFF!!!! Little did I know when I posted here in January that I would be experiencing broken regulator #4! Ordering from fordpartsguy and doing it myself this time. EFFF Ford and the dealer for porr workmanship and overpriced repairs (accordingly).
