Wait for what? Our first 7.3 was in 1988. Next was a 95, then a 97, then a 99, then found a good deal on a 94, and now both of my 02's. Have loved every one of them so I guess I dont know what a guy is suppose to be waiting for.

It is definitely a matter of preference. I personally love the way a diesel runs. Little things like the the fact that It can be 115 degrees outside and pulling 25k up a long 6% grade with the A/C blasting cold and the throttle smashed wont even make the temp gauge move while you pass the gassers running their heaters and hanging out the windows. These motors are designed to work and work hard it is simply a diesel vs gas issue. I am sure the V10 is a great motor, but since running a diesel I have never felt the need look at buying one for me personally. No reason to change when you are totally happy with what you have run for 20 years with success. Sure when 7.3's become obsolete I will have to look at the newer diesels and make a hard decision beings the EPA has royally screwed up the motors, but hopefully that will be another 10 years or so! LOL!

Broken math. The Powerstroke cost approx $5K more to begin with.
That's $7400 to mod with.

This entire argument is stupid.
It comes up all the time, and is about as lame as it gets.
Each engine has it's purpose.
If I were to pull my TT regularly (as in at least once a week)-I would probably have purchased a diesel. But, there's a problem-I WILL NOT own a 6.0L. I WILL NOT own a 4R100 in a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. I also WILL NOT drive a manual trans in a truck. I WILL NOT own a 6.4L because of the ignorant emissions controls and DPF system on them. So, that eliminates ALL of them, and the 3V V10 was the choice for me because I also WILL NOT own a 2V V10 because it has a 4R100 behind it.

Well, you can take that $7400, and buy every off the shelf mod you can for a V10, and have alot left over. There's only so many things you can bolt on before you're topped out. Without doing machine work, you can not mod a gas engine to hold up to a diesel engines stoutness. True many gas engines (not friggin top fuel) are able to put out impressive hp with mediocre torque, i.e. NASCAR engines, but they need to be rebuilt what, after every race? A diesel can be run that hard for a very long time and not need a rebuild.

I bought my diesel to last a long time and for the fun I can have working on it, as in adding mods. Some people are content with just putting gas in a vehicle and driving it, hey that's fine for them, I just like to be more involved with my truck is all.

Sorry partner, with todays economy, I don't think any of us is willing to spend gas money just to see you get your heart broken . But I couldn't play anyways, I got too many mods to make it fair.

I'm surprised it took 8 pages for that to be brought up...
My truck came STOCK with a turbo, I can't help it if the V10 didn't. What I should have said is I want to run my STOCK 7.3 against a STOCK V10 with a load, on a grade, to see how each one really works. It would be nice if each truck was similarly equipped (tires, gearing, drivetrain, etc) to be most honest. Are you afraid that my meager little motor will actually do better than your beloved V10?

Where do you live? Honestly I'd like to put the 2 back to back, just to see where each one shines. Give the FTE community an honest test! I don't care what the outcome is... I think it would be great to put this silly old V10 vs. diesel argument to bed.
And what did you mean by the "wait for it" comment?

No. No it wouldn't. Ford's modular motors operate at higher RPMs than the diesels. If you geared one truck to that motor's liking, the other truck would suffer.

I realize the V10 spins higher RPM Deluxe05. Now that I think about it, it's a lose/lose situation really (my proposed test). If we run my 7.3 against a V10 with the same gearing (3.73) the V10'ers will cry because the gearing is too high. If we ran the test with my truck against a V10 with 4.30's or whatever it is you boys prefer, the diesel crowd will cry because the V10's lower gears gave it an advantage.

I said it before, and I will say it again, both have their strong points, and both have their weak points. Each person needs to measure the pros and cons for themselves and make an educated decision. I have nothing against the V-10, even though I own a couple PSD's. If it says Ford on the label, it's better than the rest!
