I've never heard of a dyno set up to "guesstimate" flywheel numbers. There may be, I just never heard of it myself. If there is, well, that's about a stupid as it can get.... I got a bridge I can sell to the guy that believes those numbers, on that kinda machine, are solid. And I'll selll it to a diesel or gas guy LOL!

The diesel gets the short end of the stick by far. Diesels were made to run, not do short hops. 5 miles and the truck isn't even up to normal temperature yet. Fine for gassers, bad for diesels (in the long run). Some short hops every now and then are okay, but I don't make a regular habit out of driving 2 blocks to the store in my rig (that's what my wife's SUV is for ).

I never have a hard time getting to or hanging at the speed limit (my truck loves 1800RPM @ 62MPH). The only time I get passed is by the speeders, but I always catch (and pass) them on the next hill !

Time will tell.
Funny, there are more 7.3L parts offered than I can afford! Heck, my dealer still has a poster for the old AIS filter system in the parts department. Diesels will always need fluids...and parts to keep the fluids from leaking out! And there will always be somebody willing to take my money for those parts, whether it's Ford, a shop, an aftermarket company or some generic brand from Autozone. If you can still buy parts for a Chevy Corsica (you old guys know what I'm talking about) then I'm not worried about getting parts for my rig.

With an auto tranny the drivetrain can soak up to as much as 30% of your power before it even hits the groud.

I got mods, but I do like my 320hp/704ftlbs at the ground. And this was done on Johns Woods dyno, and if he ain't running a tight ship then I don't know who is.....
For $400 I can get a chip and, bam, I've got 400HP and 700+lb-ft of torque -- and then, bam, I'm writing a check for $4000 for a new transmission -- and then, bam, my wife serves me with divorce papers and a "I hope you and your truck are happy together". I think the stock power will do just fine for now .

have you PSD guys ever broke a Dana 70?
The Old Body Styles (OBS) my have run the Dana 70, but the PSDs run a Sterling 10.50 (10.25 pre-2001 I think) and the duallies ran a Dana 80.

Don't they use a higher grade of leather in the gas trucks?

Heck the folks on the farm here haul tractors and horse trailers around with a 2V 5.4 they just arent going to be breaking any records doing it.. except for the underdog record maybe

No matter how you look at it they come out the same for pulling and cost.
BTW, for the guys that say, well my PS will out last the V10, I can overhaul it for less then the cost of a turbo or an injector pump.
could you point out the injector pump to me? i seem to have forgotten where it is!

and if you can rebuild an entire V10 for 600 bucks you should go in the V10 rebuilding business.......

I can overhaul a 2v V10 for $1000 Dollars worth of parts.
A turbo new costs about $800-1200

I dont think engine RPM has any bearing on your diff. The only thing that will change the rpms of the diff is the gear ratio and tire size.

It had nothing to do with the motor at all.
The truck has a D60 ( 9.75 ring gear ) in it.
I was told that it was a D70 and never checked tell today.
I will replace it with a D70 or D80.
IT is in a E350 1 ton van and for some stupid reason ford gave it a V10, 4R100, towing package and 10,000 pound gvwr, 20,000 combined
WITH A D60!

Sure, but hasn't everyone been saying 4.30 gears are the best for V10's. That would mean that rear end is turning faster than a 3.73 at highway speed would it not.
