I would love to have that commute. I would walk/bike to work if it was that close. I usually have two days a week where I drive 500 miles round trip, one day at 200 miles, and the other days are 80 miles.

hate to say it guys, i do love my v-10, but when i make the money i am buying a newer model superduty, but i'm going with the older 7.3. my v-10 has a flowmaster outlaw exhaust and a k&n and its throwin down 340h.p. and 310 ft.lbs. of torque. with 4.11's. threw down a challenge to a guy i worked with who has a 2009 dodge 2500 cummins, and i yanked him down the street! but regardless both trucks have their good and bak points, and all i care about is that its a blue oval and still made in america and not gone bankrupt. that says a whole world to me for the brand. and as far as h.p. upgrades, in a few months i'm having the trans gone through and the shop says its going to be able to handle 1300h.p. and a very good friend of mine is going to the touble of twin turboing the 99(so it will sound just as cool as the psd) he saying i should see close to 950 with the correct tune!

hahaha, a gasser ford breaking a new cummins dodge!

That reminds me, I once saw one break towing a camper up a steep, narrow drive way.
It was blocking it so a guy with a V6 F150 towed both the truck and trailer up the hill.

I heard a friend touting the greatness of a cummins recently, as he's still saving up for his truck. I politely reminded him that it's still wrapped in a dodge... and I think he missed the point. He has politely requested to come help work on my truck so he can start learning about it, so I'll have a chance to show him about all the beefy stuff under the truck that, without it... and engine is useless. It'll also be good for my ego if he's with me for his first ride in an appropriately modded 7.3. So far the only two he's familiar with are the shops ragged out gasser and his brothers 'show' truck. (yes, that is sarcasm, implying a lifted truck with the wrong gearing and a big stereo)

Edit: Point is, all our big trucks with blue ovals are pretty excellent for what we do. I'm hoping an appropriately manly 7.3 will be what enlightens him.

The best truck in the world is a Ford with a Cummins, I am still savin up for a 5.9 for one of my dentsides.

Ford really missed the boat when it went with Nav PSD's
There are many threads on her to back it up.
I even had a poll on the Ford PSD forum here are the results:

That depends on what you mean by "missed the boat." Is the cummins better suited to make big power and cheaper to do in the process? There is no denying that. The 7.3 came in International trucks with gvwr's up to 66k lbs and didn't have any durability or performance problems hauling those kinds of loads. Even in stock form both engines are more than capable of hauling loads that far exceed the capabilities of our trucks.

Never saw a DT444 (aka 7.3) in a 66,000lb vehicle, but plenty of DT466's. The DT444 was quite prevalent in 26,000lb trucks though. The 5.9 cummins were also common in the F-650 and F-750 trucks, and other models of trucks in that size range.

The biggest truck I have ever seen a t444e in myself was an International 4700 with a 33k lb gvwr. I had read on various pages that it was offered in vehicles up to 66k lbs, but those pages may have been wrong. Either way, the 4700 I actually saw was hauling well in excess of 50k lbs(not counting the trucks weight). If a detuned version of the 7.3 can tow that much then it won't have any trouble with any amount of weight my f250 can haul. For what 99% of the people with a cummins or psd use them for they will never see the advantages of the cummins.

The 99 turbo'd psd was revolutionary at the time. Things got messy when environmental regulations put a stop to the 7.3... and Navistar dropped the ball on getting a comparable replacement to ford, not to mention all the logistics problems. Cummins didn't seem to have these problem.

The 7.3 couldn't meet the new epa regulations and the 5.9 could. That made a huge difference. Ford/navi had to start over from scratch and build a completely new engine AND get it to meet the new regulations. Dodge/cummins got to keep the same engine and just make minor tweaks to it. Look what happened to the cummins when they built a new engine and had to get it to meet epa regulations. The 6.7 had pretty much the same problems as the 6.0.
