I will smoke the 6.0,6.4 and new 6.7 after I do the twin turbo mod.

I drove a stock 96 two days ago. It was real slow. I have not driven a V-10 but I would guess it would surely out pull the truck that I drove. If it couldn't I would think you were crazy for keeping it.

It does the 1/4 mile 22.5 at 55.

It is ok off the line, but by third gear has nothing.

It does not merge with traffic very well.

I am going to turbo it as soon as I can.

My 99 is still stock except for gauges and a torque converter. I'd love to send it down a 1/4 mile a time or two before and after strapping a set of balls (ball bearing G28R) under the hood. Still waiting for the post man to bring the last few parts to add to the pile I have sitting behind my tool box before I install everything all at once. I'm tempted to install just the intake and exhaust first to see what it sounds like and get some audio clips - but dunno if I'm ambitious enough to want to take it apart a 2nd time for the turbo swap the next day.

As for the non-turbo older 7.3's... the two big flat beds at work (industrial trucks, as opposed to pickups) run them.

The non-turbo requires some patience getting up through the mtns around Hollywood, but considering that it was just rebuilt (dunno how many times it's been rebuilt) with over a million miles on the clock.... I can't argue with how long it's survived the heavy loads, traffic, mtns, socal freeways and unforgiving right foot of a few of the drivers. I want to say that it's a 91, but will need to double check.

The 97 turbo truck doesn't require as much of your patience getting up hill, but looks to be taking the beating just as well so far. Neither truck is going to win any races... but they were built to move heavy stuff reliably... and that they do very well.

All thing considered, seeing what we've done with these old 7.3's in the delivery trucks, I'm pretty comfortable having one in my (comparatively) tiny 250. (Makes my 250 feel like a go-cart driving home from work.)

Edit: You guys will appreciate the irony. While I'm busy voicing my appreciation for the longevity of the 7.3, it occurred to me that this weekend, I actually had a new problem with my truck. It wasn't engine related though. The door to the glove box fell off... literally... at my wife's feet. She asked... "What's that squeeking..." as she reached for the latch... and that was the end of it. :-) I hope you guys don't hold this against my 7.3 though, seeing as how the V10's of the same year used an identical glove box. :-)

Yes I do!

I still think that the V10 is the hardest pulling, but the PSD will just about stay with it and has more MPGs, so it is a trade off.

My v10 E350 has a broken glove box latch, so I cant hold that against the PSD.

That's what the vibration of a big motor spinning at a bazillion rpm will do.
