Why they dont do the comparisons like single rear axle with lowest ratio, or highest ratio (point is being the same body style, with the highest or lowest factory optioned ratio) makes the test laughable.
Compare the 3.73's in a SRW diesel, to the 4:10 in the SRW v10. Or go the other way, compare the the 4:30 to the 4:30 (lowest gear ratio offered by both trucks from stock)
Someone probably pointed this out, but the 2008 (as in the article) are available with 3.55 or 3.73 for the diesel and 4.10 or 4.30 for the V10. 3.55 is standard with the diesel and 3.73 is optional; speaking of SRW trucks only.

If someone wants to drive my truck, they certainly can. If they can tell stuff by the seat of the pants more power to them. I figure the speed limit with a trailer is 55mph where I live and I can pull any pass around here at 55mph, so it doesn't really make too much difference. I guess if your truck, with whatever engine, can get up to 55mph faster than mine you can crack me open a beer when you get to camp, cause I'll only be seconds behind you.
BTW, I live in a valley, at the bottom of the highest pass on Interstate 5 and I can maintain 55mph up or down it, both ways, in the snow.

It is not how fast you can get to 55, it's if you can maintain 55 on the hills. Most places I drive the speed limit is 70. That is the real test. lol.

Well, based on my post you can see I can maintain 55mph pulling a trailer; although it doesn't mean I'm driving 55mph, and it doesn't make any difference what truck you're driving. That was the point of my post, I can maintain the speed, and live in a valley nearest the highest pass on the Interstate. I can maintain a faster speed pulling the trailer too, it's just a matter of how much I want to push the acclerator. If there's something significantly more important than that, I don't know. Maybe the differences between the trucks become more apparent at the drag strip, but I don't go there, I go camping and I get to the campground at the same time as anyone else, and my truck doesn't struggle doing it.

I priced 08's when they came out and a F350 SRW had std 3.73. 3.55 and 4.10 were options I know for sure because I was ask specifically if I wanted either one of those instead of the std. IIRC the 4.30 is only available on DRW, which makes since as you would probably be putting so much power to the ground that you would light the tires up to easily!

This is the reason we need to have this broke up into sections. I can sit here and say that the 4.10 is standard and be true. It is standard on my truck. We keep talking about different trucks while I am only talking about the 7.3. Very confusing.
