Your '78 would need the neutral/reverse switch on the trans. It would also need the right shifter to go with it. You would need the shifter with the slot cut in it to work the switch. The case would also have to have the two bolt hole provisions for the switch to bolt on. You will have to figure out if you need the short tail shaft or the long one. I believe the FE has a 3 bolt starter too.

Well I got it today for $75.00.Its suppost to only have 10,000 miles on it.It has a Tci torque convertor that stalls 500rpm mopre than stock,And maybe a shift kit.The guy I got it from had it built about 7 years ago.Junked the truck and pulled it.It has been sitting 5 years in his garage.Thats why he wasnt sure about the shift kit.It looks clean and you can tell by the gaskets its been rebuilt. What are the chances its hurt it sitting for 5 years.I have always heard from tranny guys you need to turn them over by hand a few times a year when sitting.I am going to install a new front seal, fluid and filter for good measures.

Also it has the right switch mounted on it with the linkage. And it doesnt have a tailshaft it has an extention to bolt to my np205

Thanks

There are 2 different tailshaft lengths that go with their matched housings for the 4x4's. They both use the same spline count though. I wouldn't worry about it sitting. If your putting it in where one went bad I'd flush the lines & cooler real good first.

If you have the C6 that came from your truck you can swap the tail shafts & housings if they are different. You have to tear the whole trans down to do it though.
