Kenwood Service Center no help.

Here is a brief story.

I have the Kenwood kvt-512 radio. I hooked it up and wired all together as the directions show with the adaptor and harnesses provided.

It works more times than not. Sometimes it wont even power up, but it has a red light on showing it has power to the unit.

I call crutchfield where I purchased it from. They say call kenwood for repair/services. I send it. They respond with of course.........no problems from what they can find. Kenwood tells me that it needs at least 11.5volts. Now, I do have the two things tapped from the power supply (back up camera, either bluetooth or the nav unit).

Kenwood says the problem is the wiring harness from them or crutchfield.

Kenwood is sending the radio back to me with new harnesses to try and fix the problem.

Don't know what to do..........at a loss for now.

Have you verified 12 volts at the harness? You'll have a 12 volt constant (yellow) and a 12 volt accessory (red) - both need to have good power and good connections in order to provide power. I would verify the voltage at the harness on both yellow and red wires and if both have good power - the next step would be to only power the radio off of the harness. Chances are if you have the red light on then you have constant power - so the 12 volt accessory may have lower power and is most likely the one you tapped to power the accessories (camera, etc).

I will have to reroute the other two wires for the accessories then. I didnt think they would draw that much current for the radio to faulter.

I had some more free time and started to check a little further. It seems that when I started to pull the wires out, the yellow consistant and the black ground were somehow pinched between the housing for the radio and the dash. I am just going to run the radio and thats it. I will find the power for the camera, bluetooth, and nav somewhere else. This was just another problem that I didn't need right now. I still have the headrest moniotrs just chilling in the seat without power, and not to mention cords just everywhere since I removed the center console for now while I have been working on it. .
Oh yeah and I need to trace down my vacuum leak so I can get some AC through the dash vents and not the defrost..

My problems contiue with this Kenwood radio. After further checking all the wires have power coming through. The only thing that I can think of that it is the harness from kenwood. It still bothers me because the radio had worked before without issues. That is the reason why I am leaning towards the internal radio parts.

Well the other day Kenwood said that there was nothing wrong with it that it is my wiring. After checking I am getting all the power that I need to run the radio. I went to the extent of bench testing and still wouldn't power up running directly to the battery. The radio makes a humming/winding noise that is faint when I press the on/off button.

Kenwood sent me the radio back after they aid nothjing was wrong and I tried it again. Low and behold no turning on. I still have plenty of juice. No accessories are hooked up. Bench tested and nothing.

Called kenwood they say to ship it back again. After complaining to the woman for a few minutes they said they would send me a shipping label so I dont have to pay another $14.

I told the woman that I am not trying to get an upgrade or anything like that. I told her I just want the radio that I purchased to work properly.

Has kenwood lost its quality products or what?

Advise on what to do next?

Thanks in advance.
