Cranking no-start after oil change
OK I've used the search here and checked on Google, and can't find any answers so I figured I'd ask. So today I got a PM(basically an oil change and VA state inspection) on a F350 4x4 6.4L. It was pretty routine, drove the truck in, dropped the oil, changed the filters(2 fuel and 1 oil), pour in the new oil and off you go like always. Well before I cranked it, I went through a few minutes of KOEO cycles to get fuel back into the filter housings. I got a long crank and no start, so I figured I must not have gotten enough fuel up. So I did it again, this time it started but only ran for like 30 seconds or so. I then got the little wrench on the display and pulled code P2291. It was close to time to leave so I did a few surface checks like recheck the oil level, make sure the truck had fuel and check for leaks. Everything checked out OK. But you can prime it up for a bit and it will start, but won't run a full minute before it cuts out and code P2291 is all it gives. We've got quite a few of these in the fleet and no one in the shop has had this problem with one yet, or they're not admitting it. Any thoughts as to what it might be?

Try this...on the passenger side in beteen the door and dash is your fuel cutoff switch. Have someone hold it down while you crank.
Bet it will start then. Hold it down for a minute or two till it gets going good. I has to clear its throat before it will run good.
Issue is a sensitive fuel cutoff switch.

Sounds to me like you are sucking air at the frame rail filter. Did you coat the O ring with oil? Not diesel. Did you torque it? If it did not bottom out prior to torque limiting the problem is probably there. When it stalls, open the top fuel filter. Bet it is empty. Just a guess on my part but try it.

Sucking air somewhere. Double check the sealing rings.

P2291 Injector Control Pressure Too Low - Engine Cranking - This error occurs when enough injection control pressure to start the vehicle cannot be achieved during cranking. Service Instructions/Parts Replaced - Low pressure fuel system, HP fuel system, FUP sensor and wiring to sensor, battery voltage (crank speed)

Thanks for the replies guys. I did check the switch on the passenger side, but i didn't hold it down while cranking. I thought it was just the inertia switch. Yes I coated all the o-rings and torqued them. That frame rail one is a pain, I fought with it for a bit, then I just popped the drive shaft out of the way. I think they should have moved that one rear of the t-case, but that's a different gripe. I'll check the caps and the switch trick Monday. Thanks again.

Mine did that after a fuel filter change, just keep doing the Key On no crank procedure, let it sit for a few seconds, it will eventually start, just need to prime the system, but it will prime. You could just spray ether in the air filter to keep it running, a little hard on the pistons, but I have seen that work too on older diesels.

I would never do ether on these newer motors.
