I unhooked the fuel lines at the pump and at the tank, plugged 1 end, installed a air valve other end pumped it up, no leaks anywhere, held pressure for an hour til I hooked the lines back up. I got to looking at it, wondered ..what if I take out the servicable clear filter. Truck started right up, peeked in the top of the carb. ...have gas... barely made it out of the driveway. Looked back in the top of the carb., nothing..But this time when I pulled the fuel hose off at the carb. at least I had pressure and fuel. So I guess I have to get a new filter at the carb inlet. Must just clogged enough to not get enough fuel at full bore. The battle rages on.

I still have'nt taken on a full fledged road trip at highway speed. Was away this weekend. But it sure seems to have made a difference judging the way fuel is coming into the bowl.

Me too! It's funny how so many little things add up, like the the filter which was new when this whole ordeal began, wasn't clogged but restricted alot compared to the new,new filter.

I have constantly checked for vacuum leaks; fixed two sources of large leaks (brake booster and loose manifold vacuum tree). Most HVAC stuff is disconnected. I've capped off the ports. The only vacuum hooked up is the brake booster and the transmission modular. I tested the EGR - it lopsides really bad (at 400 RPM) when I apply a hand vacuum pump to it. But when I hook up a manifold sourced vacuum, nothing happens? I also checked the intake manifold for leaks.
It's so temperament.
Problems -
Dead cold:
If I press down the gas pedal once, it will start then dies within 10 seconds or thereabouts.
If I press down the gas pedal 3 to 5 times, it will stay running at fast idle. Then it either stays running forever or dies.
I noticed it behaved better when it was boiling hot outside. But now it's September, and it's a balmy 68 degrees out, it's become unreliable.
The only time it's 100% drivable is when the engine is at operating temperature. WTF?
Once in a while, I could put it in drive when while warming up without dying. Most of times, it will die.
Between dead cold and warming up, it's impossible to stay running when in gear.
I installed a vacuum gauge in the cab, and it reads 21 at idle. In drive, it will drops to 12 to 15 or even 10 Hg. It also idles a little rough when in gear.
