how do you tell what trans is in the truck?

im going to look at a truck its an 89 with the 7.3 in it but he dosent know what auto trans it has, how do i tell and wich trans are better

if it has overdrive, it is an AOD. if it don't have overdrive, it is a C6.

they didn't use the aod behind a diesel eng it will eather be a c-6 or a e4od in it both are very good trannys the back of the c-6 pan is S shaped and has a kick down rod hooked with the shift linkage and has a vacume module on the right rear corner
