Need Advice on Buying the 08

I posted this in the 6.0 forum as well, but not sure if the 08 owners would see it so I thought I would post here also.

I am a past 2006 F350 4x4 diesel owner, looking to get a F350 4x4 diesel once again. I have my eye on 2 trucks. A 2007 F350 6.0L w/Outlaw Package with 31,000 Miles. Or a 2008 F350 Lariat 6.4L 4x4 with 18,000 miles on it. The 08 is in mint condition, the 07 has a little wear and tear but all around a nice truck. Price diff will be approx. $5,000 - $6,000. I have some concerns after reading this forum about the new 08 technology, specifically this Regen thing these new trucks do. The fuel mileage is the pits on the 08's by the sounds of it also. In your opinion, do you think I would be better going with the 07 until the 08 bugs/mileage issues are worked through? Its only real "truck" use will be to pull a 12,000lb 5th wheel trailer (camping only) and the rest of the time it will be for driving around the city/work/errands etc. etc. I know diesel is over kill for the normal driving, but I need the power for pulling, as I cant stand taking hills at 45mph! Just looking for some feedback from owners of the 08. Is it a finicky truck? What happens when your in the middle of a steep hill and it decides to Regen, do you lose all power? Any feedback is appreciated..thanks

I have an '08 F350 that I bought last fall. Other than a slight jerk at takeoff (see other thread) I've had no problems, but I'm only at 12K miles. I can hardly tell when it goes into regen--other than the message center telling me. On the last tank of gas, it regenned twice. Once about 30 miles after fill up, and again about 265 miles later (I reset trip B whenever it goes into regen lately, so I can see how often it is doing it--usually about 200-250 miles). One the second regen, the LOM was showing 15.2 mpg. When it was done, I was down to 15.0 (I was on the freeway the whole time running 60-65). I had reset the LOM when I filled. Can't remember how much the first regen lowered mileage (probably more, since the LOM is an average since it was reset). I also know my LOM is about .8 mile OVER. Hand calculated MPG for the tank was 14.322405 (it's still in my Blackberry calculator) while LOM was showing 15.1 whenI pulled into to fill up.

Not sure what the Outlaw package is, but I know the Lariat has lots of options (I have a "plain jane" XL...). So, not sure if the '08 is worth the extra 5-6K or not based on options (not a big difference in miles...). Also, you probably won't like either truck for driving around town (especially if you have the 8-foot bed like mine), but maybe the 6.0 will give you better mileage for that than the '08 (I never had a 6.0).

Of course, if you buy the '08, you can feel good about yourself for contributing less to greenhouse gases......(myself, I wouldn't even factor that into the equation cuz I don't buy the whole CO2 causing global warming myth)

The '08 has superior styling on interior for sure, I also personally like the exterior look over previous SD's, but to each their own. The regen thing is a bummer in that it does lower fuel economy but you may as well get used to it...that is simply the way it's going to be from now on with all the tree huggers waging war on petroleum. $5000 more seems about right. Just curious, how does your price compare to the dicounts you can get a the dealer for left over new 08?

As an 08 psd owner the truck is great. I have almost 19k on mine, it is a superior towing machine and if used for its capabilities you won't regret it.

MPg's is the only real issue, regen is not going to hamper performance.

i have on 08 also, i love the looks of the truck and the way it drives. once you spend bout 1500 bucks on getting rid of that dpf you wont have to deal with regens or poor fuel mileage. the 08 rides alot better, its ALOT quiter inside and outside the truck. i second that the interior is leaps over the old style. i know alot of people complain but my dealership has been extremely good and timely in replacing the issues that came out in the recalls.
