S/N De-Coding.....
You're right so far. Your truck was manufactured in September of 1968, making it an "early" built 1969 model. The Color "E" means your truck was originally painted "Sky View Blue," which was a light blue and quite popular. The Model Number F-254 means your truck has a GVW rating of 6,900 lbs. The "G" for the transmission code indicates only that it is an "automatic" and could be either the C-4 or C-6. More than likely, it is a C-6. You can check it out easily by crawling under and looking at the transmission pan. If it is square, it is a C-4. If it a square shape but one of the corners is notched out, (like a map of the State of Utah), it is a C-6. The Axel code of 38 indicates your differential is a Dana 60 with a non-locking ratio of 3.73 to 1. Great for pulling and still gives a measure of fuel economy at highway speeds. The "K 81" indicates your truck came with a Dark Blue interior and is a Conventional Cab truck. Hope this helps!

cool that is what I was looking for. I was hoping for a locking rear since this one is plastered with camper special logos on it etc. yes I can easily identify the transmission. I didn't think C4 came behind an FE tho. I will look when I bring it home. thanks. is there a good site where this info is available that I would't have to keep posting on here etc. not that this isn't helpful I just like to have the resources for myself as well.

F25 = F250 2WD
Y = 360 2V
C = Ontario Canada Assembly Plant
E02333 = 1969
E = Sky View Blue
F254 = F250 2WD / 6900 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
K81: K = Dark Blue Corinthian Vinyl & Dark Blue Granada Pattern Vinyl // 81 = 81B Custom Cab
G = C6 Cruise-O-Matic *
38 = Dana 60 / 3.73-1 / non Limited Slip / 5200 lb. Rear Axle Capacity
-------------------------------------------------------------------
* Thru 1978, Ford used the G A/T trans code for everything!
One has to know which A/T came with which engine.
1965/67 F100/350's with 352's used the MX Cruise-O-Matic.
1968/76 F100/350's with 360/390's used the C6 Cruise-O-Matic.
NO FE engine ever used a C4!
Note: Just because the truck was assembled in Canada, does not mean it was only sold in Canada.
Canadian built trucks were sold throughtout the USA. Most, if not all the 1967/72 Crew Cabs were assembled in Canada.

I've decoded well over 700 VIN's and Warranty Plates for members of FTE.
I've seen some of the other so-called VIN decoder sites. IMO, they aren't worth TWO CENTS!

The Point.........
I'm still not sure why your posted info was directed at me. As far as your personal record of "decoding VIN's," there wasn't any comment regarding that because no one knew scores were being kept. You can be the self proclaimed Winner and Champion if you want to be! So, you have a great library......many folks enjoy that advantage by your willingness to share. If you are offended when someone else tries to help someone else out, all I can say about that is "too bad." Personally, I have no objections to you decoding as many VIN's as you can or want to, or even all of them for that matter. Regarding other sites, I believe in "live and let live." There is information that is valuable in many places.....not just from your posts. Anyone that limits their search for knowledge to only one source may be selling themselves short. You apparently failed to notice that I neither recommended any particular site, nor did I mention any one by name just from common courtesy to this site. If all of the other sites are what you believe they are, then you also have the choice of not going there or participating with them. They won't miss you. As far as starting an argument with me, you are wasting your time and mine. I would not gain anything by exchanging rhetoric with you and don't want to. Therefore, I won't bother adding comments to anything you post and would respect the same from you in return. Even if my Dad is bigger than your Dad, there is no point in chasing the issue. Have a Great Day!
