88 and 84 II

Hi all: Newbi here. I want to put my 88 2.9 FI 5 speed standard 4 X 4 into my 84 carb 2.3(?) automatic. I "think" the frames are the same. Correct? Therefore all change overs are easy? Thoughts? Thanks for your time, Wayne.

You'll have to transfer over everything (engine wiring harness, computer, etc.), including fuel system (pumps, tank, lines, etc) as the EFI engine has a higher-pressure fuel system. I can't remember if the motor and transmission mounts are 100% interchangeable, but the distance between frame rails is the same on both. Hope this helps.

I see no difference between my 88 and 85 and the 1990 I have been scrapping the only real difference is the end of the frame horns.

Too much work on that swap unless you put the 88 body on the 84 frame and swapped the drive train. You have to swap the whole electrical system including the fuse box if you put the EFI set up into the 84. Forty hour job at a min. for that swap, most of it pulling the harness.

Bronco II

Hi all: Please excuse my late reply. I, "unfortunately", have been fishing or at least trying to fish. I fired up the 84 today and maybe it will be ok but I kinda hoped everything would be equal. Wishfull thinking! Wayne.
