I am just floored. I especially look out for the ones with a goldwing bike embroidered on their shirt

on the original topic I would stay away from a bike that has been modified. I am leery of trucks like that as well. You never know. Good luck.
I'm sorry but your post offends me and the many other "old" Goldwing riders! There are good and bad riders, as far as attitudes go, on any brand of motorcyle you see.
Maybe you need to get out more.

Yes....I'm old and I used to own a Goldwing. It belongs to a nice couple in South Mississippi....not in Indiana!

sorry if it offends you but the truth as i have experienced it. I cannot change what I personally have experienced. I cringe when an elderly GW rider pulls up as does Holland. Because we know what is coming our way.
I cannot change the attitudes of who comes to my motel. They come here with the attitude they have. Yes I am sure there are nice ones out there MY experience is I have yet to have one come here. That is out of my control.
Call on your GW brothers and send them up my way show me the other side of the biker coin. I would like to see it because I have a bad spot in my heart because of how their attitudes have been and would like to have it changed. I like to believe there is good in any group but when there has been nothing but ugly i have no choice but to call it as I see it.

"Judge lest ye not be judged".

I'm sorry if most of the Wing riders that come by your motel have lousy attitudes. I can say the same thing about the majority of the Harley riders here where I live but I won't. What is important is that we ride, no matter the make of the motorcycle.
Suppose I made a statement about motel owners in Indiana having a lousy attitude? Would this include you? I doubt it! But from your post, you think all Wing riders are bad.

Doesn't matter anymore since this Wing rider sold his but gee lady, don't let a few bikers with bad attitudes that drive Goldwings cause you to form an opinion about all the rest that do.

whoa cowboy back that horse up...I clearly stated that I am sure there are nice ones out there but that has not been my experience here. Note I stated that I have NOT had any nice ones here. Not that I have had twenty or thirty but more than two or three.

I know that any group can have buttheads. FTE is full of them. I have been included in that statement and include myself because on more than one occasion I have miffed people off, turned things into a fight etc I will clearly admit I can be a bitch and I can be more of a terror than anyone I know because I am one who will say what is on my mind and not ***** foot around.

I quit renting to under 21 because of the crap I have dealt with and yes I turn away some I am pretty sure would be good kids but experience has sent me the other direction.

If a nice older GW rider showed up I would enjoy that greatly. I may have harley riders show up that give me pure hell. I was going by my experience.

If you had the experience that every time you stayed in an Indiana motel all were idiots I would say come give my motel a shot. I would be able to change that at least you would meet one who wasn't.

I also said if you know of a nice GW please send em my way because I would like to see the other side of the coin.

On a construction forum site i belong to I have said that 99% the hispanic workers who have stayed here were filthy with their living conditions. I have also said my experience has shown me that 90% of workers who stay here are what we call road *****s. (prostitutes) It is why I had a sign up that stated I do not get my honey where i get my money so do not even ask....

It isn't because I heard things or read things, it is because I LIVE IT! I see what happens here. I learn the people at the motel, you have to. I can go to motel down the hill and she will say that business men are the worst ever...i have the opposite outlook. She has just had different experiences than I have.

MY experience has been that the GW riders (older as in retirees age) are rude, demanding and not "friendly" I have not had one who wasn't. I cannot change who comes here. They come here with their personalities and quirks in place. I just found it odd that they were the way they were. Its not like they rode in here as a grouch pack they have come up independent of a group or maybe one or two. So it is how they were to me or my children or those who may work here at one time or another. I didn't pick them at random. They chose to come here.

To give you an example this was just the other day....elderly GW rider and wife pull up. Get upset because I tell them they cannot park where they did. "well GD SOB grumble grumble..." He comes in and says we need a room...okay I say I have a room with two beds it is 50.00 including taxes
He says "50 bucks? doesnt seem to fit the motel" I want to say something but say "we do have cheapest rates". He says "well I want to see room" I take key open door for him show him room tell about things in our area etc" He and wife tear apart room looking for something bad or dirty. They find nothing and he says he will take it. They pay and while I try to be nice he doesn't say anything. He gets mad because he has to move bike from where HE wanted to park it. I go back to cleaning rooms he comes up to office. My 13 y/o says hell and asks if she can help him. he says he wants a blow dryer. Holland tells him we don't have them as they have all been stolen and so her mom wont put any more in rooms. He says "so you don't have blow dryers" she says no sir I said we don't have them for rooms any more. He goes off on her about how motels always have blow dryers and for what he paid there should be a blow dryer. I heard what he said and I went to him as he was wiping down bike and asked if everything was okay. he bitched non stop about blow dryer, about parking, about air conditioner being too cold, pillows being too fluffy....I said sir you are more than welcome to go to French Lick. They have more amenities than I ever could, they have special bike parking areas, nicer rooms etc and he said yeah but they are 175 a night. I said BINGO! I am the lowest rate motel in area. I am clean, cozy, safe and try to make everyone happy. He said well you need to have more things for guests. I said but then I have to charge more. He wouldnt stop. it was witch witch witch the whole stay. they left a penny on the counter and a letter about the fact I charge 50 bucks the room and offer no inroom coffee or blow dryer. the ac was too cold (the guy had it on 6 even tho sign says keep below four)
So anyway this was him. His wife was no nicer. She was pissed I had cats in my office.
This is how the ones who have been here are. Not pleasnat. Do you think I enjoy that? Do you not think I would like to have nicer people of any walk, race, hobby etc?
I was just stating what i experience.

I apologize to OP for hijack but my feathers are clearly ruffled.

My vtx would have been totaled since you can buy one new around 9 to 11 thousand.

http://www.bareasschoppers.com/ check this site for vtx info, it is pretty informative for owners.
Its pretty easy to get big repair bills on a bike - some bikes if they get dropped in a car park and damage the fairings make them write them off.

Turns out he said an EVO motor has to have back pressure and I think the pipes on this one was gutted. He said that the heads may be a problem sooner or later on this bike. Sorry it took me so long to get back to my own post, as soon as I posted we went from starting work at 7am to 5am and it is kicking my butt getting up at 4am!!!
The EVO is a great engine, but that is probably a Twin Cam in the 01. I picked up my 90 Electra Glide for 5k, put a garage paint job on it, added some stuff to make it my own and am just riding the wheels off. The engine has 35k on it and is as strong as ever. After having ridden Hondas for a long time, I would definitely stick to searching for the Harley. Honda makes a great bike, don't get me wrong, but the Harley is such a different feel and especially if you are wanting to ride with your wife on the back. Lots of low-end torque. I like tinkering with things and so that becomes part of the fun of a Harley too - something is always coming loose .

With all the bikes out there since people can't afford them anymore, keep your eyes open for a mid-nineties model you like and don't hesitate if it has been well maintained.

Im sorry to OP for it getting off topic.
To any who took offense I am sorry.

I had about a couple hundred bikers pass by on road trip yesterday and I so wanted to go with them. Just the sense of road freedom and I just sit on front lawn and watch life go by.

If anyone could have their dream harley or bike what would it be?

There's no such thing. Once you get your bike (or truck, let's face it) the exact way you want it, you find something else you want to do to it.

I might someday trade up to a HD, but for now, my Honda VTX is plenty of bike. I would like to add a backrest, saddlebags and better (louder) pipes, which I will a little at a time. And of course, chrome, chrome, chrome!
I would love for my wife to get the bike-bug and get her own ride, but that prolly aint gonna happen.

I once thought I'd get a Goldwing when I was a bit older, but I understand that those guys sometimes turn into real weenies.

The one I have right now... just finished getting it as I want it with the exception of really re-working the engine somewhere down the line. The HD Electraglide with a low windshield is the best ride I know.

I would get the one I like and learn how to ride it. Too many people start off with a small one, then go to a bigger one when they want more power or comfort and then go up even more later on. Why? Once 500+ pounds of metal is moving in a forward direction, it basically wants to keep moving in that direction. So, it doesn't really matter whether it is 500 pounds or 1000 pounds. The only real difference is how hard it is to navigate small areas and hold up at traffic lights. Neither of which is incredibly difficult if you use good technique.

Lots of people like softails and they are a very versatile bike. But whatever, pick one you really like and learn to ride it. Might be that the bike picks the rider anyway... mystically.

I just want that freedom.
My horse is amazing and if he had access to a computer and could read his heart would break over my saying this...Freedom on horseback can only go so far. I want more. It is like that song "is there life out there?"
But on the other hand a bike cant love you back. So i want the best of all worlds...four hoof horse power, four wheel horse power and two tires horsepower.
I have seen a lot of women here at motel who have pretty big bikes and they are not near as big as I. So I always wonder. I have seen some of the most beautiful bikes here.I also see a love for the bikes that is very amazing to see.

You're how tall again?

I was gonna suggest a Sportster, but I recall you saying you were like 6' or something, so I bet you'd find a Sportster to be cramped.

I personally would REALLY like to have a Street Bob, or a Wide Glide, but both are out of my price range right now. My dad just recently got an '06 Fat Boy but I don't really even want to know what he paid for that.

I'll just stick with this for now (and hopefully the mod bug won't get too out of control)

I've already got a jet kit and Cobra slip-on drag pipes sitting in the garage, and the bike's only got 120 miles on it. Resisting the urge to install them until it hits at least 600 miles, but the bike is so damn quiet right now!

mr. dave is starting off with a positive reputation.
I bought a used Goldwing sping of '08. Smoothest, quietest and comfortaable ride. Just got back from a 1200 plus mile ride over the weekend.

If you are going to carry a passenger, have enough power and make sure that everyone is comfortable. Saw a couple this weekend riding a sport bike of some type, he was laying down to drive it and she was on top hanging on ( her seat was postage stamp size). Reminded me of 2 monkeys fornicating with a football. ( Sorry, bad picture, but 1st thought that came to mind).

just my thoughts!!!

There is a whole lot of truth to that. Like any other hobby, if you get into it, you will always want to do more, do it in a slightly different way, etc.

If I had my way about it, I would have a full dresser (Electra Glide Classic or Ultra Classic Electra Glide) for the long hauls (multi-day trips, generally), my Softail Deluxe for mid-range to intra-city rides, and a Nightster Sportster for short rides. But, even if I had all of those, I am sure that I would find & like some other bikes for one reason or another.
