two piece driveshaft

i'm wanting to put a 3-speed OD (rug) in my 71 1/2 ton. it has a 3-speed manual. my question is can i do away with the two piece driveshaft and carrier bearing. the rug is about 7 in. longer than the 3-speed and i have a driveshaft that appears to be the right length. haven't compared yokes but does anyone know a reason why this shouldn't work?

thanks

you can eliminate the carrieran bearing. just be careful of driveshaft angle. check what you have before you remove old one. you may have to rotate axle slightly to move pinion up or down to get proper angle.

I have a Rug OD in my 79 F150 w/ a one piece driveline. The driveline shop said it was oversized and had a "speedlimit" as far as how many RPM's it would go before haveing problems... if your not low geared and or driveing really fast, you should be fine. I did find that it has a bigger sized U-joint than my 76 F100 that has a 2-piece driveline. I swapped out the rear gears from that truck to my 79 and then found I had to put the 79's pinion yoke onto my new rear carrier to match the bigger U-joint on my one piece driveline. You could have your two piece shortened.

Post two piece driveshaft

Hi BBT,
Can you tell me what kind of shifter you are using in your truck with the RUG OD trans. I have a F100 with a bench seat and want to put one of these transmissions in it but can't find a shifter for it.
Thanks Craig
