I got a list #6299 for $80. That is a 390CFM for a pinto and vega 4 banger. It had dual metering blocks which made it tunable. If it dosent have metering blocks dont buy it. Most people shy away logicly as its a pain to setup. The only problom is there is no info for it. With the dual meetering blocks it setsup just like any other holley.
Might save a buck.
That is the Autolite 4100. It is the carb I chose for my 300 build up.
It will work. Although it was on a 428, it is still the 1.08 venturi size, which means 480 cfm. Ford put them on that big engine for emission reasons. You can rebuild it for a $30 for a kit. Take your time and run a soft copper through EVERY orifice, and blow it out with compressed air. Read about the carb on www.ponycarbs.com. It is supposed to be the best 4v carb ever made, but that is a huge claim. I went with it because of its reputation for maintainance free performance and milage. The annular fuel discharge in all four barrels is supposed to be the closest to fuel injection you can get with a carb!
I have rebuilt several, and they are very simple. CHECK THE FLOATS FOR LEAKS, if they are brass. I posted photos of mine in the forum. Good luck.
It's a big deal if they're bad. They'll sink and your engine will flood and run like garbage. The reason he mentioned it (most likely) is because they're not included in rebuild kits, so its up to you to check the ones in there to see if they're any good.

I understand that a float being bad is a big deal. I just thought it was like one of those deals of if its bad dont buy it! ie. you cant fix that or it will be expensive to fix
I don't know if you can buy those floats from a parts house. I know they are available because I have two new synthetic ones in my carb. I know Pony Carbs sells them for about $22 a pop. But they are expensive. I have 4-6 of 'em in my garage. If you can't find replacements, I'll mail you a couple at no charge, you cover the postage, which should be less than $5.
I've been buying and rebuilding them and selling them on ebay for a while now. They are prized for restorations on the classic mustangs, and also because of all the hooplah put out by Pony Carbs.
One note: You might want to send an email to Pony Carbs and see if they sell the 'sleeves' for the 1.12 venturi 4100 models, making them a 'spreadbore.' That way you could buy one of the more common 1.12's, and the primaries would be smaller--1.00--but you'd have the big secondaries for those 'highschool moments.'
That would mean GREAT milage cruising around town, with neck snap accelleration. If you go that route, get one with the short 'snout'. Look at the carb from the throttle linkage side. There is a linkage arm which connects to the throttle. That is the accerator pump arm. They made those carbs with long and short housings. You want the one with the short accellerator pump housing, about 3/4" long.
