[QUOTE=alanco;7642865]It started out in '56. The truck was a runaway best seller, and Ford did not bring out the '57 until all the dealer orders were filled. This meant that the '56 had almost two full model years of sales.
This was something I didn't know!
I think all the reasons for the popularity have been covered with personal preference being most.
As far as Big or Small window for me the big window looks cool sitting still however, I followed my buddy in his big window and you can see EVERYTHING the driver does i.e. sipping a drink or even performing an operational check of the "gas release valve" (smell check here). So for me a small window is more practical.

LMC Trucks sells a kit to install a big back window in a 56. Part's By Chesser http://www.chesserbuilt.com/parts.html has kits for 56 as well as kits to fit slant cabs. I am sure there are others. I don't know what the quality is for these kits. Does anyone know of anyone who installed one. I would think the difficulty level is higher than a cab corner or floor panels but lower than a top chop, depending on the quality of the insert piece. I am thinking of this for my 53.

Not to make this go off topic, but here is a better step-by step for you Rick if you want to see the work involved.

Mid-fifty seemed to have a better price for the metal, but LMC was best for the glass.
