When I try to turn the motor over it cranks real slow like if the timing is to adv. or to much compression. When I pull the plugs it turns over no prob. This is what I did,Bought a used 83 460 and put new head gaskets, comp cam(valve lift .530 tappet lift 280),lifters,comp valve springs n seals, new timing set.I used rocker shims to adj pre load for the lifters because of higher lobe cam.Is it from exh valves not opening soon enough? Help pls.

Back in the day when I had a high compression (12 to 1)engine I had to install a switch to cut the power to the coil. To start I would engage the starter and then flipt he switch for the ignition.
Try cutting the power to the coil and see if it turns faster. If it doesn't improve it could be the valve timing.
regards
rikard
