Went to the pullin track today!

got the 150 hooked to the sled today. went away with 4th place out of 8 in the 6500lb. class, hey it aint first but for the first run i was pretty impressed with the ol dog for bein in a class full of big v8's newer trucks and i only had enough weight to get me to 5200. tried to get a video of it but it didnt turn out the best. looking for another pull next weekend and i'll get a good vid. think i might have found a new hobby

'86 F-150 4x4 300 straight 6 bored .30 over with a comp 268H cam. granny low first gear i believe it would be a T-18 transmission. replaced the clutch when i rebuilt the engine, other than that i have a half way decent set of 31x10.5x15 mud kings on it for rubber and a heavily welded rear bumper/ag hitch haha

In my truck, 4 low in 2nd gear feels nearly just like 4 high in 1st gear (bulldog/low gear, too).

I'd say he didn't bog down in 1st gear bull dog in high 4x4. Ever driven a truck with bull dog? Nothing can stop 1st gear. Something would break first. I think what he is saying is that he needs more speed. 1st gear bull dog is just straight up a 5mph gear at redline, lol. Maybe 10mph :-P. I'd say just take out in 2nd high, or 3rd low, and see if the power feels ok. What was your main issue that held you back from going farther?

It's a slang term for the ultra-low first gear that comes in the four speed gear boxes like a T18 and NP435. Some call it 'granny gear' too

believe it or not i actually powered out in bulldog. first time i've ever done it! my old ag hitch was stretchin like crazy! like i said i was suprised as hell at how good it hooked up. im sure my engine could use a lil tuning but since i rebuilt it last summer i can definitly tell it still has more power than it had previously, i have it camed and all but i still have the stock intake and carb so i suppose if i got the 4barrel intake and whatnot on it i would really notice the difference, im also unsure of what my gear ratio is so i'll have to check into that at some point. the pulls around here aren't all advertised well all that much, havin a hell of a time finding another one!

keep in mind this is on a track made for maximum traction pulling 6500lbs of dead weight hooked from ground level with about 3 ft of chain along with extra weight in the back of the box, it gives you a heck of a lot better bite. hell my front drivers side tire looked like it was hardly touching the ground! im thinking i would be better off with 2nd 4 low, sure there aint much difference in speed but when i do start runnin out of steam i can try to grab 1st

If you have an NP435 or T-18, you won't be grabbing first unless you are at or nearly at a dead stop (less than 1mph). I have to be at a complete stop to get into first (not that I ever need granny gear). Not synchronized, unless you have the T-19.

I'd tune your engine. I swear, I'm not bragging, yada yada, but you shouldn't power out in 1st gear bull dog. Your engine is either in need of some tuning or something. The only thing that should stop a truck in 1st gear low/bull dog/granny gear is either you got stuck and the tires are spinning... OR you broke something.
