Manual transmission shift levers?

I have a ZF 5 speed in my 92' F-250. When I drive I tend to rest the weight of my hand/arm on the shift lever and when I take a turn I find I'm pulling on the shift lever for support. Is this bad for the transmission, wear out a bearing somewhere, or something like that? It's always in gear, I'm just tugging on the shift lever a lot.

Thanks
