Need recomendation on good Tranny
I have a 1980 F-150 w/ a 300 I-6 and a Borg Warner T18 4-speed tranny. I need something that can handle alot of tourqe (about 600ft/lbs max) and have good gearing. But the one thing I really need is a short(er) throw shift. I would prefer a 5 or 6 speed tranny. But my main thing is the shorter the throw the better. My T18 is like 18" throw. This tranny will be going on the same engine but with a twin turbo setup. Thanks for the help.

Slowsix, I had to break the bad news but the ZF isn't rated for 600 lbs-ft. I think they are rated at 420 lbs-ft to the input shaft...I'm not sure about the new 6-speed ZF in the newer trucks. With that much torque you need an allison from a med/heavy-duty truck. I hope you plan on running 5-ton military axles too.
