Need To Order New Engine Tonight! Help!

I need to order a new engine for my 1969 F100 tonight. My truck has a 302 in it. Trans is manual 3 speed. I would love to just be able to take out the old engine and put in the new. Are there better solutions than getting another 302, or is that the most simple thing to do? I have a contact who can buy Fords crate engine straight from Ford. Or, what about this one from Jegs:

https://www.jegs.com/i/ATK-Engines/059/HP79C/10002/-1

Or this one from Speedway Motors:

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Impossible!
No one can buy parts direct from Ford, due to franchise agreements Ford has with its dealers.

All parts and new vehicles have to be purchased from authorized FoMoCo dealers.

I stand corrected! I was told by the owner of a local shop that this guy has a contact and can buy engines directly from Ford.

However, since I made this post, I called him to see what was available. Turns out what he can get is rebuilt Boss 302 engines.

So....back to my question.....
Anyone have any suggestions about an engine?

If I was gonna buy a 302 crate engine, I'd buy this one.

All of those are pretty expensive for what they are. ATK has a shortblock in the $1200 range. Get one of those, some blueprint aluminum heads for $1000, budget dual plane intake like summit or weiand, comp XE cam and have way more bang for your buck.

If you have a 302 already swap over the tins and hardware to save money.

The big problem you'll find with any "later model" 302(pushrod motor) is the block is NOT machined for the pivot ball for the clutch linkage. Into the later 80's or so, the mechanical linkage went away for hydraulic clutch control. Thus the boss and threaded hole was removed from the block casting.

Definitely something to check on if you order a motor from someone.

Fixed it for you.

Be advised of the early 28o z vs the later 50 oz imbalance. Both of the engines you posted are later blocks.

Also note the later model firing order.

In terms of the clutch ball pivot, a bolt-on bracket is available from many sources.

OK - I'm going with something like you suggested, except, I'm getting a Blueprint engine. And I'm going with a long block. I'll use my existing intake, carb, and distributor.

I was not aware of this, but after doing some checking, it appears I can get a bolt-on bracket for this.

Good luck on the swap. I think you will be surprised by the difference the new engine will provide. Just remember that the firing order may be different now like HIO said!

I'm sure I will notice a huge difference. I just found out yesterday that two cylinders were not firing at all. Checked plugs, plug wires, distributor....and no change. Pulling off the plug wires from those two cylinders made no difference at all in the way the engine ran. Pulled off the valve covers and they had moisture in them :-(

Thanks Bill for clarifying that date. I wasn't sure, but figured mid 80's.

HIO, kinda figured by now someone would have a fix for that but wanted to make sure the OP knew it was an issue that needed addressed.
