No more ugly orange mirror reflectors!

Ok, thanks to a fellow forum member, he figured out that you can pop out those orange mirror reflectors. He painted his with smoke niteshades paint. But then we also figured out that you could get the black plastic inserts from the STX mirrors, so that's the route I took.

Part numbers for the black STX mirror lens inserts:
Left: 9L3Z17E749AA
Right: 9L3Z17E748AA

Cost me a total of $15.66 shipped from an online dealer (Tasca). Took only 2 minutes to pop out the old orange reflectors and snap in the new black ones. I like the look of them, they match the rest of the black portion perfectly.

Here's pics:

I didn't realize that it would be that easy, very tempting to do now. Was there any problem taking the mirror off to get to the clips?

Then when you get into a wreck and the insurance investigator finds out you may be denied.

There is nothing that says that you have to have reflectors located on your mirrors. Obviously if it were illegal to be that way then they could not put them on the STX either.

Yeah, lol! YOu'd better hope you dont need to have any warrenty work done, otherwise they'll say it has to do with the removing of the reflectors.

I had a blown speaker wire in my FX4 Ranger, and when the dealer saw that I had an aftermarket XM radio, they tried to blame it on that.

No, just know how insurance companies operate. I am sure it wouldn't be a problem.

Wow, so you paid for something, then replaced it with a part from a lesser equipped truck? I know I sound like an a$$ right now, I can't help myself.

if they were functioning blinker parts...I see your point

but the yellow blanks are worthless IMO...and the newer look is 100% better IMO

I won't bother responding to any of the stupid comments above...

anyways, you don't have to take your entire mirror apart, the reflectors just pop off from the outside. I just used a small flat blade screwdriver and pried from the inside or left side of the reflector shown above. Just be careful not to scratch your mirror.

edit: see at least Tylus gets it...thanks man!

Well they would have to prove the truck didn't come that way. He replaced a Ford factory part with another factory part, and as we all know they use what they have available at the time, I am sure more then one truck has been make with the wrong or different parts then normal (this from experience working on them for years) plus I have never know an insurance company to pay with out trying to screw you one way or another anyhow. I had one try and deduct for a missing spare tire, and the pictures the adjuster used as evidence showed the spare tire mounted in the factory spot Duh!
