gear drive

I have a Pro Comp gear drive that came with no instructions. Is there anything special I should know about installing it? It has the thrust washer but I've seen posts that say you should always have a cam button as well. It's going in a 429.

Thanks,
Jerry

Beechkid is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
FYI,

remember with most gear drives they have a life expectancy of 40,000 miles.

40,000 no kidding?? I was thinking about buying one for my 390 but now will just stick with a good timing set.

It's also not unusual to see a 5-10 hp reduction (depending on the redline) as a result of the increased friction. gear drives are very accurate in terms of setting cam/crank timing, but they were intended for very high rpm applications (8000 rpm+) where piston/valve clearance becomes extremely critical (as compared to running less than 7000 rpm). For street and most street/strip engines, a nylon coated double roller timing chain/gear set is more than adequate in terms of cam/crank timing accuracy and longetivity.

Interesting guess sometimes race parts should stay on the track. 8000 for me would be bent pushrods and probably some valves through the pistons. I would only advise that if your single or have a disposable income. Women have a hard time wondering why you have to have a $15000 motor LOL.
