2005 to 2007 17" wheels, how wide are they? Fit a 33x12.5x17?
I'm assuming that all the 17" wheels (basic chrome, modular holed, Lariat, etc) on the 05-07 are the same width. But what is the width? 7.5", 8", 8.5"? I tried to find it on the OEM catalogs, etc, and it's not listed.
I'm trying to figure out if you can fit a 33x12.5x17 on the stock wheels. From some of the tire sites I've seen, they recommend an 8.5" wheel as a minimum width for the 12.5 wide tire.
Anyone know what the stock wheel width is?
THANKS!!

yeah you're gonna want atleast a 8" wide wheel for a 12.50 width tire and at most a 10" wide wheel. 8 inch will just cup a little more. my lariat wheels are 18x8 and the tires arent cupped too bad.

I have 37/13.5-18's on 18x9 wheels, no problem. You should be fine with a 12.5 on your stock wheels, even though they say they don't recommend it. Just my .02

I didn't look and see they were 7.5, I assumed they were 8 inches wide. If you can afford new wider wheels it would be better. I have seen F250s with 35's on the stock 17" wheels, though.

Yes I think many people do this, though it causes the center of the tire to bulge out and wear funny. I would think they would not handle so well either.

I was messing around with a converter that I made up in Microsoft Excel, and a 285/70/17 works out to be very close to a 33x12.5x17 (it works out to be 32.7x11.2x17). Now I know they don't make a "11.2 inch" wide tire, but really what that means is that a 285/70/17 is only 1.3 inches narrower than a 33x12.5x17.
Seeing that you can mount the 285/70/17 on a stock 17" wheel, it would be way cheaper just to do those tires and forget the additional 1.3" width. Yeah, the 12.5 would look better, but I couldn't justify the cost to get them by time I had to buy new wheels.
Theoretcially, it should look the same from a side view. Just won't have the width.

Or do 285/75-17. Those work out to be 34"x11.5. A little taller and still work with the stockers. That's what I've got and they look much better than the original 265's. Your choices do become rather limited though with the 75 series. Just depends on the tire you're after.
I have ran 35x12.50 tires on 8 inch wide wheels on the last three trucks I have owned. My F150 got 50K miles out of BFG MT's on those wheels. I never noticed any cupping or wear and I am very particular about monitoring tire wear. I first had 10 inch wide wheels put on the last F150 and the wheel was actually a little too wide in my opinion. Remember, a 12.50 inch wide tire only has an 11 inch wide tread in most cases.
