Ok I just got through testing my compressor. I'm not sure how hard it's supposed to suck on the suction side, but it was sucking in and putting out air!! There was also a little oil spraying out on the high side, is that supposed to do that? I made a short video of it running I know it was squeaking some but I think that's because I didn't have the belt tight enough. In the video you can see me stick my finger to the valve for a demostration of how hard the suction is. It's very short because the sd card is almost full. If you want to, check it out.

tomw is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Two things: From what I know, the oil is carried around the system by the refrigerant. They mix together kind of like gas and oil mix for a two-stroke chainsaw. I think the majority stays in the sump, and what is carried out by the refrigerant supposedly makes its way back.
The second: You painted the compressor blue. I have never seen a York in any color other than black. Guess you had to be creative, eh?
By the way, don't run it a whole lot w/o refrigerant as you'll lose the oil and, maybe, there may be a little cooling effect from the incoming gas. Heck, I'm not an engineer, but slept in a Motel-6 ...

That "looks" like the compressor is doing what it's supposed to do. tomw is corrrect about the oil. You will get some in the discharge but the majority will stay in the sump.

I sure hope you're running it like that with the old oil and plan to change it. That oil will be moisture saturated now. You will need to flush the crankcase 2-3 times with fresh oil. You really shouldn't run it like that while open to the atmosphere.

I painted it blue to to match, I wasn't worried about it being correct. That is about all I ran it right there. I didn't run it over 2 minutes total. I was just testing it. I took it right back off the truck after I did this video. I left the brackets in place but I took the compressor off.

Is that how hard it's supposed to suck? I hope so, because that means all I need now is the condensor, drier, and lines.

EDIT: I do plan to change the oil one more time before I mount it permanently.

Thanks,
