What type tranny fluid?

Allright ya'll, I got my truck (specs in signature) and I'm about to change the tranny fluid while I'm under there with the X-fer case out. What type of tranny fluid should I use for my C-6? Also, what type of fluid should I use for my NP-208 X-fer case?

Use MERCON, not MERCON V fluid.

Sorry, I don't know for the transfer case.

Does anyone know anything about a NP208? Thanks Mark for the C-6 answer.

Use Type F fluid in a C-6. It is less slipery than Mercon. Too much slip will toast the clutches. The C-6 is designed for Type F fluid.

According to Ford's TSB 01-15-7 the C6 from 1977 until production ended in 1996 used MERCON fluid.

What type tranny fluid?

my truck spec for my 82 f150 with a c6 says to use Mercon,DexronIII
my transfer case says use the samething but since my truck goes off-road alot I put SAE 30 in my transfer case it lubes better and keeps the transfer case cooler I have never had a problem with it
If you put SAE 30 in your transfer case just flush it with SAE 30 first then fill it up. I also noticed when off-road i don't hear that whine from the transfer case in 4lo and you let off the gas anymore
