'36 diesel?

I've had 1936 1.5 ton truck for ages and have done nothing but disassembly- the easy part, I know. The old flat head has a cracked block so an engine swap is for sure... how about a diesel?

What about one from that era? Mercedes came out with the first 260D car about that year... Was anybody building diesel trucks?

Anyway just daydreamin', any ideas?

the flathead is such a sorry engine I marvel that anyone EVER thought they were useable, and yes, I did drive one daily for 3 years.
To anyone who thinks the flathead is a good engine, drive one daily, seriously and report back
