Because I wanted one & my wife said I could have it.
Good point! I had the same situation and having three kids, I had outgrown my regular cab. I printed off what I wanted to order and the wife gave me the go ahead. When the truck came in the day before Christmas Eve, she handed me $10k to put down plus the title to my truck and said Merry Christmas.

Like so many others on here when it came to trucks I was always a Chev guy. Mostly because my Dad was also a die hard Chev guy. Well I started working in the oil field 5-6 years ago and the company always bought Chevy 3/4 HD's and gave me a new one to drive every year or so. Nice trucks in their own right and they did what we needed them to do. Granted these were work trucks and the upkeep was a little lacking for the most part (not by me but by the other guys that took them for granted) but I was still amazed at how every one of them needed a complete new front end after 100,000km, most didn't even make it that far. Then tranny's would start failing at around 140,000-150,000km's and it was like clock work. Now this was on a fleet of about 200 trucks so you can imagine the maintenance cost was substantial.
Common comments in my line of work were always that Fords were better "off road" but you couldn't beat the ride of the Chev on the highway. And seeing as how 95% of our driving was on the highway, we felt Chev's were the way to go. Well low and behold I changed companies and within a week the boss handed me the keys to my new company truck, a 2008 F250 CC 6.4PSD. I was amazed at how big it was inside compared to the last 5-6 Chevs I had for work and how solid it felt in comparison. The over all look of the truck was much more impressive and Ford had finally updated their interior. Once I was on the highway I could instantly tell that the ride was every bit as good as the Chev, if not better. I drove that truck for a few months and then decided to start contracting myself out and my first purchase was my current truck.
I agree with everyone that the EPA morons are ruining these trucks with every change they make. But a few hours in the shop cured mine of the cluster f**k they call emissions control. I couldn't be happier with my truck and have never regretted making the switch to Ford. I've ridden in Chev's and Dodges since and they feel like a tin shell wrapped around a motor compared to my truck. Even took my Dad for a ride after he helped me install the new tuner and exhaust and after I almost snapped his neck when I hit the throttle, you couldn't wipe the S**t eating grin off his face for at least a week. That was one of those father/son moments that I'll always remember. Ford has finally updated themselves into the current market and I think this is just the beginning of a new generation of FORD guys. Sorry I got a little long winded there.

I bought my Ford because all the Dodges I've driven felt like cheaply made crap with a good engine, and the Chevys I've owned were not reliable enough. I've stuck with Ford trucks since, and glad I have.
My dream truck would be a Ford with a CR Cummins and an Allison 6-speed auto or a manual with OD box, might just do that if my 7.3 ever dies, which will be in like 15 years, lol.
though i agree ford is the best truck, some people were downtalking the cummins. yes it's in a hunk of **** dodge and id steer clear of it at all costs, but the reliability of the ISB compared to the T444E, which is the most reliable powerstroke imo, is alot better. Problem with it is unless you wanna fab one into your ford, you gotta buy at least an f-650 to get one. The powerstrokes arent unreliable by any means i just figured i'd shed some light on the cummins. Oh yeah, btw, chevy trucks aren't made for work, even their WTs suck. My 2.3L Ranger could outrun the V6 WTs, kinda hard to pull anything with no power
