Your truck is an 01, so it probably has PMRs.

2000 and earlier had forged rods....and there is probably a build cutoff date because some 2000s came with PMRs.Umm IIRC, it was 10/2000 that they changed over to the PMRs, but that is disputed because some later build trucks have forged in them.

Diesel Innovations website used to have a picture of the inspection hole and directions on how to determine what type of rods you have, but its gone missing.

I'm trying to see if I can dig that up for you.

I am reading that an '01 with forged is extremely rare. Its like winning the Powerstroke lottery. lol.

Guys I can't find that inspection hole picture. Its not online anywhere. I wonder if anyone around here happened to save it.

Why? With the diode trans, the extra few ponies the forged engine MAY be able to hold together with, the trans probably won't.

Yes I have Forged rods, Mike (Tenn) don't. My truck was built 8/2000, his was built 9/2000. I don't know if that is the difference or not. There is a plug right over where the oil filter is that will let you see inside the block. I had to use a piece of 7/16" square stock to get the plug out. It is not 1/4" or 3/8" ratchet. I did put the square 7/16" square inside a 12 point 3/8" socket in order to take the plug out. Once I got the plug out, I still couldn't see the rod nuts. I had to get my wifes magnifying mirror to look into the hole. I also had to bump the starter 5 times in order to see the nuts. There is only about 2 1/2 threads on after the nut. You don't have to drain the oil, just look and find the plug over the pan.
