4.6 "Interceptor" Different than Regular 4.6
#16
very good info. I heard somewhere that the newer police interceptor crown vics got bigger alternators due to all the added electronics inside the car and all the sirens, lights, etc. but im not sure if this is true or not.
and these cars are one of the very few out there still utilizing a full frame.

I work on police vehicles for a living and prior to the idle meter feature, we had departments coming in all the time needing new batteries & alternators. Since then, batteries haven't been an in-demand item.

the car and truck engines use different intake manifolds. otherwise, they are the same engine.. if you put a car intake engine in a truck, it will be a dog with no bottom end power.

Lots of misinformation in this thread. Start by searching P71 Crown Victoria and reading what Wikipedia has to say.
Highlignts:
Different tune than a normal crown vic
No PATS (chip key)
Higher ride height (stiffer springs)
Dual 2” Exhaust
Heavy front antisway bar
Light rear sway bar (unique to the P71)
200 A alternator and power points for Police equipment
Oil - Water engine oil cooler mounted behind rad in lower rad hose
Front bucket seats (cloth)
Vinyl rear seat
Rubber floor mat
Optional fire suppression
Steel in back of front seats
Trunk cargo divider
Diffferent interior lights in middle of roof
Calibrated speedo
Hour meter on newer cars
17” wheels
3.27 or 3.55 gears
Plain Jane black plastic dash and door panels
Manual heater controls (*****)
Marauder air intake with 80mm MAF sensor
The engine is otherwise a regular car SOHC 4.6. It is 260HP and 300ft-lbs.
