Looking for a U clip for clutch cylinder
Hey all,
If anyone happens to have the small clip shaped like a U off of the clutch cylinder that limits the clutch pedal travel, I need one, mine broke, and now my foot keeps hitting the plastic below my steering wheel.
Or, if someone has a line on them, I would be much obliged....
Thanks, Dig

The travel is limited by the linkage in the hydraulics. You can remove the CPP (switch) entirely and it won't change the travel of the pedal. I'd check to see if the rod coming out of the master cylinder that attaches to the pedal isn't popping out of the master. Have you checked to make sure the master cylinder is staying put in the firewall, or is it moving around when the pedal is out?

Naw, it is staying put. I replaced my clutch pedal assembly, and the little clip that goes over and behind the switch broke. I was told and it does look like that clip limits the amount of out travel of the pedal. the rod will come farther than it is supposed to, but not all the way out.
Not really affecting anything, just a PITA. Of course, you cant buy just this clip anywhere without buying the entire caboose too....

You were explained wrong. The U shaped part that covers the above sensor has absolutely nothing to do with pedal travel. If there are no issues with the firewall, then your options to repair will either be to try a new rod (the one that hooks onto the pedal and snaps into the clutch master cylinder), or replace the master in the hydraulic set up (if you don't want to replace the entire hydraulic assembly).
The part pictured above is only around $25 or $30 at the local parts stores, and it comes with the u shaped part you think you're looking for.
Before something breaks even more and leaves you stranded, I'd suggest you try and figure out what the issue is. I'd suggest removing the CPP from the rod, then disconnect the rod from the pedal. If you place a small flat blade screwdriver between the **** on the pedal and the clip that holds the rod on, the rod will just slide off the pedal. Grab the rod and give it a gentle tug and see if it comes out in your hand. It's not supposed to. It should take some muscle to get the rod out of the cylinder.

Ah. I did not know that, but appreciate the info.
My rod pretty much falls right out of the slave cylinder, and the cylinder is firm on the firewall.
I think I will live with it awhile, I hate to deal with that much work just to limit the clutch travel. I did find out I can manually pull it up from underneath, the rod that is, and it will hold anywhere from 2 mins to 2 days.
what does the clip do then?

The U shaped piece is just there to hold the CPP in place. If you're springs inside the CPP are good, it won't fall off the rod, but if they look like they do in the picture I posted earlier, then it might fall off the rod.
Ford does sell a replacement rod for it seems like less than $10. There's always a slim chance a new rod will snap into place and fix your problem. If not, just save the rod until you decide to start replacing parts of the hydraulics.
