How did Ford fix the Death Wobble in 08?

Hey guys,

First off, yes I did try searching this out, and I couldn't come up with a definite answer, so I thought I'd post some questions about it.

I've been reading on here, and saw a few posts saying that Ford fixed the death wobble in 2008 and up models. Then I see some people who own 08's were getting letters from Ford regarding the death wobble. So I'm kind of wondering "if Ford fixed it, why are the 08 owners getting letters about it?". And that leaves me with 3 questions:

1. Did Ford actually fix the suspension issues that cause the death wobble?

2. How did they do that?

3. Can it be retro-fitted on a 05-07.........or is the only fix for 05-07 new shocks and dual stabilizers?

Thanks

Aftermarket FIX... that works!

As to question 3, these guys have a fix that works.

Super Duty Fix...

...and before I get more questions, that's one of the owner's trucks pictured and is not affected by the wobble. It's only in the picture as a FORD Super Duty built by their shop!

I merely added a dual stabilizer to my 05 and it's fine now.

I realize these are both fixes, but I'm mainly trying to find out if its fixed from the factory now on the 08's and up, and if so, can the same fix strategy be retro-fitted on the 05-07 trucks.

Can't say now, but I swear the death wobble letter I got from Ford included '05 to '08 trucks.

I looked over the one I received dated April 09,
Mostly just address F 250/350, only thing I see it states to prevent shimmy, maintain recommended tire inflation pressures. And do not make suspension modifications. I guess I screwed that one up.

How did Ford fix the Death Wobble in 08?

That's a good question.

I've talked to 3 dealers, 2 said they were not aware of any shimmy problem with the F250, the third was going to do some research and get back to me, hasn't yet.

I emailed Ford got some generic response that didn't answer my question.
So I called Ford talked to a very nice woman but she was really no help.

No one I talked to will admit there is a shimmy problem. They say bring it in but if they don't have any idea what to look for what's the point.
They all talk about tire pressure, I know pressure could be a factor. But the death wobble is more than tire pressure.
These dealers are either dumb or Ford is instructing them to play dumb.

This weekend I'll go to the Ford lot look at some 09's see if the setup is different.

I'm not bashing Ford just telling ya all what happened.

tsb

Isn’t there a TSB stating to install a different stabilizer, that is what they did on my 05 250 and the difference is night and day. I have kept the same tire pressure in the tires from day one. BTW I think they had to widen the frame to put the 6.4 in so that might make a difference.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

they didn't fix anything for 2008. I have a slight oscillation in my 05 but rarely have it at highway speeds. the mechanic that works for my dad has a 2008 F250 FX4 5.4 CC SB and a few weeks ago driving on the highway at about 70, he hit a bump and almost lost it. the wheel started shacking heavily and it was almost impossible to steer it while it was happening. he also received the shimmy notice from ford. hope this answers the OP's question

I could be wrong and someone with an 08 and an 05 thru 07 maybe able to clarify but i believe Ford repositioned the stabilizer on the 08 and up. Again i am only repeating what i have heard. This relocation (if in fact it has been) was intended to help, minimize or eliminate the "death wobble" has it? I do not know but if it has been done i would like to think that Ford engineers did it for a specific reason.

Regardless if it has been "fixed", as FX4 5.4 states it still happens. Do what we all have done and replace the stabilizer with a quality one, single or dual. Replace the shocks when you feel they need to be replaced sooner than later and be done with it. It's a simple and cheap enough fix anyone that has a wrench can do.

During the death wobble, what exactly are the front tires doing.
Bouncing up and down, in and out or both.

Ford works in mysterious ways. Look under a 2008 with a 6.4 F-350. Under more specifically a wide track, as FORD calls it.

Beefed up. Heavier. BLACK SHOCKS. No death wobble from mine at around 14,000 miles.

In a similar post about how to measure your motor oil. DO YOU deep down think that FORD couldn't design a better dip stick, or do you think the dip stick does what is intended, and that is to confuse, as we know the 6.4 has leaky injectors.

SAME with the death wobble. Confuse 'em. We eventually give up. I raised my hands long ago.

My '08 had it. Nothing that Icon dual steering stabilizer couldn't fix.
