no 6th gear this mornin, but had it this afternoon
Truck wouldnt shift into 6th on the way to worked this mornin. It did on the way home, the one time traffic let up enough for me to get up to speed. There was no CEL or tow/haul light flashing, i havent checked for codes yet, probably do that tonight or tmrw. Does that sound like the 5-6 solonoid gettin weak? Dont know to much about this tranny yet, any help will be appreciated.

I know absolutely nothing about the manual tranny's on these trucks, but it seems weird that the final gear would go bad. Does it grind or anything? How is your fluid level? When was the last time it was flushed? How many miles on it?
You would most likely have a lot better luck in the superduty section since I believe the manual isn't powerstroke specific and is the same one they have used for almost a decade now.

I'm confused...if you are talking 6th gear, you must have a manual transmission. If you have a T/H light, then you have a Torqshift (5-speed). Even though there are alternate intermediate shift strategies, the final drive is still the same gear (what most would consider 5th). If the fluid/filter have not been changed in 30K miles, you ought to do so.

I have the torqshift. I know you only use 5 gears on the way up, but it is a "6" speed. Sorry for the confusion. I had the dealer flush the system when they put the new motor in a few 1000 miles ago, although they did forget to change the external filter, I did that a couple weeks later my self. I may be changing it again my self in the next few weeks.
