289 to 390 motor mounts
Will the mounts in a truck that has a 67 289 work for the 64 390 I am going to put in. I read some where that they will but will only be about 1" lower.
The original motor was the 352, then a 390 then a 289. I have not inspected the mounts as of yet since it is not here and won't be until the end of the month.
Just asking here, now, so I can focus on other aspects of the truck.
Thanks
Mike

Is the 390 a '64? Or is the truck the 390 going into a '64? The 289 mounts will not work on a '64 frame as it is not the same as the '65 or later frame. Your easiest bet is to get an after-market engine mount system for the '64 frame and earlier trucks from one of the distributors that sponsor FTE. If it is a '64 390 block going into '65 or later truck, they likely will work.

The truck is a 65 and the 390 is a 64 out of a Galaxie.
The truck has a 289 from a 67 mustang in it. My uncle did the swap a looong time ago.
My time line is from original to current. Original engine 352. Onwer before my uncle put a 390 in it. My uncle put the 289 in it since the 390 was shot and he just recently totaled his Mustang.
Hope that makes things a little more clear. Sorry for any confusion.

Ford never factory installed one 289 engine into any F Series truck or Econoline.
The 289 was used in 1963/68 passenger cars, 1965/68 Ranchero's, 1966/68 Bronco's.
The 302 was introduced Spring 1968 in cars, first installed in F100's, Bronco's and Econolines in 1969, F150's beginning in 1975.
No 302 engines in F250's until the 1980's.

Got the urge to chime in. Suspect uncle may have shifted the perch for the 302 installation. As for the insulators they are different. If perch has been moved, and intend installing the 390 may want to keep an eye out for the driver's side engine perch from power steering donor in the event decide to go with the power steering upgrade at later date.

Prior to 1973, the left side is the same with/without P/S.
302 perches are the same with/without P/S and are the SAME ones as the 1977/79 F100/350 351M/400 2WD's use.
240/300's are the same with/without P/S.

Bill, that's my understanding, it was mentioned by member in a thread quite some time back so I salvaged all the items for the power steering upgrade, including the perch, but have not gotten around to installing yet. The perch is sloped slightly, assume so it does not interfer with the Ford steering box. Would be interesting to know if the later models with the 302 and power steering have a simular driver's side perch.

Well, anyone want to buy a driver's side engine perch, looks like I can add another Ford truck part to my list of items I have absolutely no need for. The good side is thanks to Bill (ND) I will not be breaking out my grinding wheel. Bill, thanks for the info, fortunately majority of my Ford truck salvage shopping is complete, if I do, will send ya an email to confirm, don't need to add to the list. Book marking the thread for future references.

The early non PS mounts are easily modified with a grinder or plasma.
All the small block/Modified perches are all ready bent to clear.
