HEY EVERYBODY
First off this is not my first build, i have been around the block before.
This is just my first old ford!!! LOL Before i break something i thougt i better ask.HOW do you seperate the column from the steering box,i have the collar at the box off it is apart inside and I cant pull it apart!! ANY HELP OUT THERE
THANKS ANDREW
Are you talking about the steering shaft or the steering tube. The tube is held together on the bottom by a hose type clamp. Loosen it and (if you have your steering wheel off) the tube should slide right off. I'm not sure about the shaft. I would imagine it's part of the gearing in the box and th ebox has to be taken apart. Could be wrong?!?
All I know is when they want you to return the core they tell you to cut it off, so it could be one very long part My manual is out in the shop covered in dust as I don't have much use for it
John
If it's the same as a '48, then yep, the shaft goes right into the box. Would have to remove the pitman arm, and unbolt the box, and slide it down and forward til it clears.

1948/64: Same-o, same-o.

Exactly. Even with the seat out and the floor plates out, I think the truck needs to be lifted to get it out, if the front end sheet metal is on.
I just sold one to a guy in LA and he wanted the box and shaft. It was kind of awkward to package so I had to make my own package. You have to take the box apart to get the shaft out.
I guess I misunderstood your question, if you're just wanting to remove the steering column to allow you to remove the cab, the steering box comes with the column. Removing the pitman arm and three bolts that hold the steering box and the floor plates will do it.
