Are you talking about the steering shaft or the steering tube. The tube is held together on the bottom by a hose type clamp. Loosen it and (if you have your steering wheel off) the tube should slide right off. I'm not sure about the shaft. I would imagine it's part of the gearing in the box and th ebox has to be taken apart. Could be wrong?!?

All I know is when they want you to return the core they tell you to cut it off, so it could be one very long part My manual is out in the shop covered in dust as I don't have much use for it

If it's the same as a '48, then yep, the shaft goes right into the box. Would have to remove the pitman arm, and unbolt the box, and slide it down and forward til it clears.

Exactly. Even with the seat out and the floor plates out, I think the truck needs to be lifted to get it out, if the front end sheet metal is on.

I just sold one to a guy in LA and he wanted the box and shaft. It was kind of awkward to package so I had to make my own package. You have to take the box apart to get the shaft out.

Later Folks...

I guess I misunderstood your question, if you're just wanting to remove the steering column to allow you to remove the cab, the steering box comes with the column. Removing the pitman arm and three bolts that hold the steering box and the floor plates will do it.

Let’s start a contest, where did it come from?

My cyber guess, ……….from a Federal or State Prison Farm.

Welcome to the site Andrew (but you don’t have to SHOUT, my hearing is bad but not that bad)

Wow! nice spelling huh? I guess I should proof read my posts better.

OK, I'll toss out a guess as to where the truck came from.....

...hmmm.....lets see.......
..........was it buried in the woods in the back 40 of a little farm operated by the Sisters of Perpetual Suffering??

"It's been a wonderful 'ol truck, I never had to change the oil!"
