Mpg 7.5l 460

I am looking at buying a 1996 F250 with the 7.5L 460 engine in it. I was wondering what kind of mileage I could expect to get.
Thanks,

I believe the original. I will ask to make sure though. It does have headers, cold air intake, a 4'' suppension lift, 18'' wheels, and 36'' tires though

ok, what gears and trany?
A 96 will have an OD. so depending on gear and trans type, I would say 6-12. If you plan to do a lot of towing you my want to go with a 99- NBS
truck with the V10. I have both the 415 V10 and 460 big block v8, and the 460 just does not compare. My 460 is a 4bbl, so yours may be way better.

Ok thats kind of what I was guessing. I'm not going to be pulling with it mainly off roading and plowing. The guy selling it said he got 12-14 mpg and I just wanted to check to see if that was close or not.

my v10 gets 14- 15 highway, so that may not be far off.

ok, than it has a E4OD.you should get about the mpg he says highway, 6-12 city, but that is just a guestament. If you post in the 87-96 forum, and give all the trucks specs, you should get a better idea.

My 92 gets 10-11 at 70mph, 7-8 around town. 31" tires, all stock except for a 3" catback exhaust and a fresh trans. New headers and a cam/lifter kit are waiting in the garage, I'm hoping to get better mpg's when it's all done..

I have a 94 F250 Supercab longbed with fiberglass shell, 4X4, E4OD, 4.10 gears. Your mileage will vary a lot depending on options, gearing etc.

I typically get about 10-11mpg for mixed around town with freeway driving, IF I go about 50-60mph on the freeways. If I go over 70(Almost required around here) it drops to maybe 9mpg. Almost doesn't make a difference how I drive as long as I am not stuck in stop and go or going something like 80mph. Best I have ever seen is maybe 13mpg downhill on a tail wind drafting a semi. Speed appears to be the mileage killer with my rig, lots of wind drag.

With my 8,000# trailer I get something like 8-9mpg on steady flat land driving at about 60mph. Worst I have seen is around 5-6mpg hauling the trailer up long steep slopes like the Grapevine in Calif.

I use synthetic lubricants all around but my log book doesn't show me any mileage improvement that I can clearly point to.

Just my experience,

Jim Henderson

Ok, that gives me a better idea. I want something for a fun truck, some off roading and such, but also need to get something I can plow with in the winter. I love the truck, but almost wonder if I need to look for something with the 5.8L. How big of a difference do you think there really is? Both gas wise, and power for what I want to do with it

the 351 will give you about 1 - 2 mpg more, for a lot less power.
If you want better mpg and power than a 460, get a NBS ( 99 forward ) with a v10.
by the way, plowing snow kills auto tranys. If you are going to do that much, go for a stick shift.
